• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

18 inch rear tire size suggestions 82 cr500

silverstreakNZ

Husqvarna
Pro Class
nearly finished making the silver streak look like one and not a milk truck . one of the last things to think about is rear tire choice . rim is now an 18 of an unknown stock classic husky . and we ride on grass / topsoil . never really hard pack . never too muddy either . will prolly go for something like a michelin sc12 etc . but what sizing should i go for ? the widest that will fit ?
mainly want to make sure i wont upset the traditional husky handling

120mm - (4.50)width while you need all the grip you can get, you don't want to turn it into a straight line special... so try to avoid overtyreing it first so you can flick it around. if your getting absolutely nowhere when you open her up, get a bigger tyre then. its better to be able turn easily with some power than fight it wanting to lift and straight line your corners. find some really cheap tyre to run in on before upgrading to a big $$ item. will take a while to get the swing of the bike so mat as well burn up a cheapie while you do it.

I have the michelin S12 XC (140/80) in a 18" x 2.50 nordisk rim ('83-'88 wheels pretty much the same). When the bike lands hard and rear end fully compresses, the tyre will just rub the exhaust silencer when running at 13 psi. It is an intermediate tyre and has been excellent in wet muddy conditions, not so good on hard pack though! Wasn't the stock '82 wheel 17" diameter?

im a huge fan of the metzeler uni-cross. long wearing and good handling...great traction.. they also look the part on an 80s bike

Try the Michelin MS3 over the S12 - You wont regret it. MS3 was only released last year in 18 up till then only available in 19.

just put a 120-90 dunlop 752 on my 78 390 with a 87 18" rear wheel.Works great.I know the 752 is no longer avilable.but the size works

cheers guys . for the past couple of years it had the 18 inch wheel on it anyway . but with the non floating brake hub and some rang dang spacers . now i de spoked both wheels and builtt the 18 inch rim and spokes on the floating hub . coz i hate the look of the 17 inch rear . and choice sucks . when it had the 17 on it it was a huge michelin desert tire that i could ride on the road and it didnt even notice .

the last 18 i had on it did exactly that . slide out or wheelstand . because it had knobs 4 rows wide in a line and only one staggered knob . so not falling for that again . that tire was free tho .
mainly asking because i know they only make 19 inch tires for less sidewall flex in SX etc

my 02 ec 300 is fairly long in the steering aswell . so im used to that .

sorry for lack of pictures . theres not much to look at . its going to look mostly stock but you will know its done the deed in the dirt . odd scuff in the tank . old rims . alloy brake stay arm . semi original colour scheme ( similar but not showroom) as with plactics . most of it is just using what i have . sticking with the 44 mikuni . coz i didnt mind it . might make a power blade .

Consider an Irc M5b 140*80*18 don't let them tell you 130 is the biggest. That tire when mounted contrary to the drive arrow is very similar to a trellborg. If you can get the trellborg I think they are 10 masters the arrow will point what I consder to be the right way, cleaning not scooping, and there are a few more rows of knobs. As for the front I think there is a metzler has one that looks just like the origional so the origional design must have been acceptable. There is voncunduro from irc that I get sometimes just for the name. The m5b is called soft terrain which I have been told means harder rubber compound. Virtually any new tire is impressive compared to a worn one but worn ones are ok too in most instances for me.

Or...you can get a Dunlop Geomax MX 51 ..the new MX 52's only come in 19 now...so look around for a MX51...fantastic soft terrain tyre... the 51's are vailable in a 120 which is much bigger that the designated sizing indicates..
