  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC '17 FE250 oil thread

Hey Guys,

Sorry I know this has been asked a lot but I'm still unsure here.

Just got a '17 FE250 and need to do my first oil change. The manual recommends Bel Rey 10W50 Thumper oil. I wanted to stick to the manual but cannot find it locally.

There's plenty of Rotella T6 and Mobil1 0w40 at my local stores. I heard these are still OK -- if so, should I still follow same manual maintenance schedule?

Thanks

I say yes. The exact same engine is in the KTM 250 and it says to use Motorex. Its all about which oil company pays Husky or KTM and they reprint the manuals and a bunch of new case stickers.
Don't want to start a oil discussion/argument here again but as long as the oil meets the specifications, Its good to go.
In my own experience.
I've been running Mobil1 0W40 euro blend since my first oil change at 30 minutes in my '15 FE501 in the High deserts of South East Arizona. The bikes now at over 165 hrs. and 3700+ miles of rocky trails, sand washes and plenty of mountain single track.

I do like the Bel Ray Works Thumper Racing Synthetic Ester 4T. Used Castrol Racing at the 10 hr change and it shifted harder. Many respected riders swear by the Mobile 1 synthetic. From the test stats I've seen I wouldn't hesitate to try it based on those findings alone but as I said, many respected posters here use it so I'm willing to give it try next change. Less $$$$

When I was running both my 2011 TE310 and then my 2013 TXC310, I ran both on the Mobil1 0W40 euro as well.
Bike always were great.
Very occasionally, on the TE 5th gear would slip a little.
Not sure why only 5th, and not constantly.
But that was the only thing ever
