  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Been swamped and just got around to installing the 144 kit last night. Very nice kit. Stuffing the 125 piston in the 144 barrel really shows how much is gained which seems like a lot. I knew my jetting was rich but the bike ran real good. After taking it apart it was running far richer than i thought.

These are for Walt. It looks like the end cuts are exactly the same as the updated replacements for the 125. The only difference is the length overall.

You need to build the assembly before dropping it in...

Drop them in and then install the rod and lever. Make sure you notice the reaces hole for the set screw on the lever, install and rotate tot he positions so the set screw goes in the depression...

Piston goes in arrow forward, ring goes on lettering up. I also install the far side pin clip before installing the piston on the rod.

Also note that there is a locating pin for the ring gap, make sure all is lined up nice before dropping the cylinder on.

Gasket goes red strip side down, can only go on one way due to the collars around the two cylinder studs.

All ready for the cylinder...

Install the bolts and button it up. then reattach the linkage arm and put the cover back on.

Kicking it over at this point slowly to make sure everything rotates well. I alway lube the cylinder a little with 2 stroke oil. Seem like it had a lot more compression. This is going to be fun. Wish the freaking rain would go away.

Which base gasket did they sent with the kit There are like 4 or 5 different one

Big difference fro the thinnest to the thickest

Nice...I'm getting so anxious now!:busted: Where's my kit K?!!!:D Bout to go ride some fresh trail we just cut on foot yesterday. Gonna bring the Gopro should be plenty of face slappers.

That is going to be a fun bike. I've always wanted to try a 144 or 200. Small bores are fun but a lot of work. I had a yz125 (1st bike) until Oct. I like the red paint on the head.

Thanks for the picks. The stock power valve has a ~5 mm sealing surface. I raised the bottom edge 3 mm and parallel to the top. Turned the motor into an extremely torquey motor below the power valve opening rpm. It actually climbs better than my WR 250 just because it finds and maintains traction on the steepest and loosest climbs motoring up below the power valve hit. I sent a gopro vid to Kevin in Boise so he could hear how the bike runs and maybe I can have him post it. My connection speed is so slow that posting a 1 gig video would be an 8 hour upload. I haven't tried chopping it up as I am new to the gopro and vids in general.

Kelly any advice on a posting site and software for manipulating the video?

Congrats on your new 144.
Walt

I use Picasa to crop the video and then to upload to youtube. Real EZ to do and all free.

Thanks for the making the effort Kelly will be handy for us novice mechanics - waiting to hear how you think it goes though ...

I'm actually new to the video world myself and haven't figured out editing ... will look at some of the previous posts for guidance.

Hi Motosportz, I see that you have a Keihin PWK, can you tell me the jetting and the needle used? thanks

Other than starting it up and running it up and down the black a few times i have not ridden it yet. Maybe this evening. Dunno what the jetting should be but I was rich before so I'll be richer now.

There are several very good jetting threads here on the 125, do a search. Here is where I was at with the 125. Ran good but was a little rich the warmer it was getting. The red is probably what I will try for this kit and the changing weather.

Year & Bike Model = 2009 WR125
Carb = Keihin PWK 38
Pipe & Silencer = 04 Doma pipe and PC SA
40:1 Amsoil
Temperature range (deg F) = 55-65f
Elevation (feet) = 50-2500
Main jet = 178 172
Pilot jet = 45 42
Needle = JD blue in the middle JD red in the middle
Clip position = #3
Air screw setting = 1.5 - 2
Slide = 7
