    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Ok, So here is the deal 6 months ago I went on a ride for about 5 hours, Came home washed the bike and put it up a week later I got on it to ride to the store and it didn't want to start. I got it started and road to the store but it didn't want to stay running and was real choppy, I came home put it up and 2 days later came back out and it wouldn't start at all.
Last week I put it in the shop and here is what they did, New fuel pump and new TB and injectors, Took it out twice for about 4 hours total riding, The last ride I did it started acting up the same way it did as before choppy and back firing and didn't want to stay running acting as it was running out of fuel, So I took it back to the dealer where the work was done, They called me Monday and said the Injectors are clogged again, Then today they called and said the injectors are fine and getting fuel, The dude tells me now he thinks it's the rings?? Now. The shop is really new to husky's Since they deal with Kawi and Honda's and they made some mistakes on parts I had ordered They ordered parts for a TE300 and told me he thought they would fit my bike (SMH). Now is it possible the rings are bad even though when they put on brand new OEM TB and injectors on it and it ran fine after that in fact it ripped, I spent $1800 to get it fixed and the only reason I took it back there is because they worked on it last and wasn't about to spend $200 to have another shop look at it.

So should I just tell them to replace the TB and Injectors again and see what happens? I don't know why but i feel like they are trying to blow smoke up my a** to make money they will be loosing.

Hmmmm, l get a second opinion mate!!! Find a joint that deals with Italian Huskys or at KTM/Husky get their opinion.
Rings don't make a bike backfire or cut out, worn rings will cause lack of compression and in turn power...simple test is to feel the pressure of the kickstarter (if you can disengage the auto decomp even better) or a leak down test...unless the bike has over 150+hrs and due for a piston and ring?
If they replaced the TB and fuel pump, they SHOULD HAVE emptied and clean the tank and filled with fresh fuel...have you checked the fuel filter?
Have they done a valve adjustment or at least checked the valve clearances?
Someone checked that the flywheel hasn't moved and causing the bike to be advanced or retarded?
It may be a wire shorting somewhere causing the bike cut out? Inspect your connectors from the battery to the ECU, fuel pump and TB heck, pull the connectors apart and spray contact cleaner to rule this out.
Kill switch, is it shorting out? Start/stop switch, is that shorting out?

Replacing TB and injectors isn't an air filter, these units should last the life of motor, I would not pay a single cent and have this shop sort the bike out as $1800 is a hell of a lot of money to pay for a supposedly fixed bike that die's in 5hrs of riding!!
 
I don't know about the smoke thing, but it seems they're lost. and you're paying too much. (and this problem has an electrical fault feel to it).

The bike ran fine before the wash?
if so, take the stick-coil off the plug, inspect it (look for water anywhere) and shoot some wd-40 in it. spray the spark plug well too or hit with compressed air (which is better- you can look for water spray)

treat all your electrical connections w/ wd-40 too (silicone di-electric grease would be slightly better, but don't worry about the mineral oil, totally fine). this is a good chance to inspect those connections, including the fuel pump and fuel injector connections. TPS, too. spray, spray, spray... and test too.

while you're doing that- look for wire rubs.

check your battery connections and make sure they're tight. spray.

with the new TB, the bike ran great??? and then what happened and how? why would the rings now need to be replaced? In my massive fuel injection experience <sarcasm- 2 years tops>, throttle bodies don't go "out" very often.

start your bike every time after washing; let it idle for a bit too.
btw, do NOT wash with a pressure spray. or be insanely careful, if you feel you must.

Its not the rings and its not the TB.
Sounds like a clogged injector. Possibly water in the fuel.
My 2012 tc250 had a dirty injector and ran the same way you describe. That should be something you can replace yourself. Either buy a new one or get yours cleaned.
 
Mine from sitting over the winter, even with Startron stabilizer, did same thing. I dumped it right away, but was popping real bad on start up. Surprised at how much moisture was in gas. Sons TC 250 was the same at start up.
This is first time that I have run gas other than VP, VPR race fuel. Bike just runs great on stuff then no problems sitting over winter.
You might have some varnish and stuff in your lines. Make sure your clamps on intake and air box are not loose.
 
I've seen this condition on a 310. It couldn't decide if it wanted to run good, backfire, or run above an idle then die. We ended up towing it out of the desert into the dark of the evening. It was a long 185 mile day of pretty hard and fast DS.

Turned out the battery had come loose, the wires had chafed as the battery bounced around, and it was finally done for the day.

Don't let these guys even smell the gas in the fuel system until you go through the wiring starting at the battery and out from there.
 
I thought you were CO; Uptite would've a good call.... actually still is.

why was all that stuff replaced? (btw, get it back- it's worth money). what's the fuel filter look like?

this seems like a water-in-electrics problem or fuel pump/connection problem. those guys are all over the map, OR we're missing some info.
 
That's crazy. Why would you have to replace the throttle body, rather than just the injector?

An injector is about $70. Throttle body around $500.

Definitely get your bike to Uptite.

So yeah I went into the shop today and they told me they made a mistake and I didn't need to buy a new TB and they are refunding me, They ordered a new injector just have to wait for it. They went through every part of my bike just to make sure and everything was to spec. I'll give everyone a update when i get it back next week.
