I bought this bike about a month ago, and it's been really good so far, aside from a clutch cable breaking after a week of owning it, and a headlight bulb burning out last night.
A couple days ago I decided it was time to pull the right side case, and check the primary nut, and the cup washers. I couldn't get the primary nut any tighter, and the cup washers look to be fine.
The left side bag filter did turn up lots of gasket material, and a few metal bits.
My only complaint right now is, the gaskets and O-rings... this bike likes to leak a bit... Bag filter cover, smaller oil drain plug, oil fill port, valve covers... not massive, but just seeping, after a ride you can see a bit of oil. But I'm reluctant to put RTV on all the leaky bits, seems like I'd just make things a lot more difficult in the future.
The previous owner said he put Motul oil in it, and I replaced it with the cheapest synthetic I could find, which was AMSoil 20w50, and the clutch no longer pulls me forward while idling and pulling it right to the bar. I had a lot of drag with the previous oil, so much that I had to rock the bike back and forth when it wasn't running to get the clutch plates to "break free". At least now it isn't pulling me forward while waiting for a red light.
Hardest part was figuring out why the cover wouldn't go back on, then I realized the oil pump wasn't aligned anymore... oh and the valve are a pain to check, no room to get the covers off without (re)moving a lot of stuff.
Two questions, what do your bag filters look like? and how loud is your transmission? Mine clunks pretty good through the gears, and I've only hit false neutral once, when I was going from 5-6 and not really pulling hard on the shifter, it didn't get angry and wack into gear like my DRZ would, just sounded like a normal gear shift. When the DRZ hit false neutral, I thought the transmission was going to explode when I put it into gear again.
