  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

13 te 310...should I buy it?

Great Dane

Husqvarna
Hi, I am currently looking at a new 13 te 310, I have never owned a Husky, but this bike seems to be an affordable option. I am an old enduro guy looking to start riding dual sport events. Any feedback about this bike would be appreciated, along with any info or opinions on parts availability in the future.

Great bike... You will want to go over it initially and set it up as there are a few issues out of the crate.
1) Needs a fresh FI map on day 1. Best is Open Leo Vince map and unrestricted air filter frame installed ( plus cat removed and velocity stack restriction removed). New stock map and that same unrestricted frame will work too depending on dealer and warranty issues (I ran mine through waranty period and then did the power up) .
2) Very important... Make sure bike kicks easily and e-starts easily. If it feels frozen or jammed the decompressor is not being activated and one of the exhauist valves needs to be adjusted tighter. There also was a recall/tech bulletin for some starter parts. Have dealer run the vin and see if your bike is one of them.
3) Check carefully under the left side of tank for a hex head fastener that may be resting on a radiator hose. If so it will vibrate and chew a hole and the fuel petcock could impact the water pump housing. Easy fix by placing some spacers under the tank mount in front. Zip Ty makes some spacers for this. I also recommend replacing the offending hex head screw with a 3mm button head allen. (search for a thread... radiator hose a tight fit).
4) The black tail section is somewhat of a sloppy fit. I removed mine when was clear it would self destruct in time. Stock bike comes with some angle brackets so the signals can be relocated forward. Search for a thread on this.
That's really about it. The manual is missing some changes for '13 like the inclusion of a proper drain plug.

Go for it if you find a good deal. Hope this helps!

Thanks. The dealer has one 310 left, which he says has a idling problem right out of the crate. Its not on the showroom floor and he told me he would give me first chance at it once the issue is resolved. The price would be $5500.00. At that price I would probably opt to keep my 07 ktm 250 xcw instead of trading it in. I guess it would be insurance if I didnt like the 310. I have always been a 2 stroke guy, but cant register one for the street.

If you define DS as a mix of road use as well as the bush then this is not the bike for you. If you mean fire trails and single trails it is the best bang for buck out there in the 250 to 350 category. Your call

I am not too concerned about its road performance as long as it will legally connect trail sections. I am more concerned about its performance in typical east coast enduro type terrain. I have never been overly impressed by four strokes in the past but find myself with no other option to be legal for dual sport events. All of my riding buddies are losing interest in competition events and turning to very enduro like dual sport events. I will basically woods racing with my buddies without the pressure of being in an actual race... but still want to be competitive from section to section with my friends, if that makes sense lol.

I have a powered up TE250 from 2010 (first of the xlite motors) ... It's a GREAT handling woods bike ( i live in the northeast US )... Very very solid in the handling department. Easy to toss around, abeit tall but it's nice to have that clearance when going thru the rockey northeast woods.

Only issue I have is with the power delivery, seems to bleb if I accelerate quickly. It's the type of bike you need to have a knowledgeable dealer nearby so they can tinker with the FI settings. I think the later models are better tho (especially when they switched to KEIHIN FI). You may want to check out a TE449 as well.

One other issue is the handles tend to vibrate a lot - notice it more on road then off road. So that may not be a big deal.

I bought a 11 310 with low miles, mostly street and the upgraded ECU/injector a couple weeks ago. I just got out for a 3 day ride on it in Eastern OR, mostly moderate trails with some connector street stuff. Great bike on the trails with the 50 rear sprocket, but your top speed on the street will be around 50mph comfortably. I have a 09 250 xc-w for the extreme rides which I love and I consider this my "need a plate to ride" bike, but it's a very competent dirt bike.

Thanks for the info, I'm leaning toward purchasing this bike as long as the dealer can straighten out the issues. What are the chances parts will be available for these bikes in the coming years since the KTM merger?

Since the company and dealers are still here then they have incentive to follow through on parts. I know that its still possible to source parts for pretty much any Swedish or Cagiva bike either through Husky or other suppliers. The X-lite is a popular model so I expect those wont be too hard to keep running for several years.

This will fit your needs just right then!
You can always add the TXC mapping & injector if you want more oomph but in stock set up but powered up it's plenty good for what you describe.
Good luck!

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like the bike would suite my needs, now if only I can get over my fear of reliability issues or poor quality control from the factory. The more posts i read, the more it seems kinda 50 50 whether or not you get a good bike or a pos. Any thoughts?
