  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

This database is for jetting setups on the CR,WR 125 / 144 / 150 bikes.
The goal is to list your carburetor settings and provide a brief conclusion of the results.

Please do not post jetting questions in this thread.

The race gas helps as well as the cr ignitions in the 125's. That said I can't imagine you can get the WR 250 to run well on the bottom or idle above 8000' with whatever jetting you want to put in the stock TMX. ;)

Runs great top to bottom, pulls hard everywhere, no bog with a nice semi-progressive hit. PWK airstriker made a huge difference.

Runs clean and strong everywhere a 360 should.
 
For your list be sure to add fuel/oil mix ratio as lots of folks have different trains of thought here, 32:1, 40:1, 50:1 etc.
factory calls for 33:1 for the 125 (close enough to use the easy mix ratio 32:1)
the 250 and 300 call for 50:1 by the OEM spec

(less oil more rich fuel mix, more oil more lean fuel mix)

effect on jetting is an issue with vaious mix ratios as well as with all the other parameters (temp/alt etc).

Conclusions/Results = I'm going to start out at Kelly's settings and go from there. Carb was delivered with 185 main jet installed, 45 pilot, JD Blue needle in 4th position from top, air screw 2 turns out. 175 and 180 main jets and JD Red needle were also provided in the kit.

i used the ktm cable it is exactly what this carb needs since it came from a ktm and i did not remove the curved pipe from the mikuni carb.
i ride from sea level to 500 fit.
i ordered the JD jet kit but the bike now thanks to Walt advice is working perfect with the keihin needle.
i will replace it with the JD blue one as i get it.

PV Spring Combination = Yellow + Silver
Conclusions/Results = This was the baseline jetting that came with the PWK from Motosportz. I thought it may be rich, but better rich than too lean. Overall, it worked pretty good. Clip #3 was better for the warmer 80 degF weather. Note: I felt a lack of low end response and want to try a softer PV spring combination next time (Orange + Green).

UPDATE (4/13/2010):
The Orange + Green PV spring combination was a step in the wrong direction. The bike had no bottom end and was difficult to lift the front wheel over logs. I'm going to put the OE spring back in to establish a baseline with the PWK carb. My belief is the OE spring may work good with the PWK, whereas, the TMX likes the softer spring combinations.

UPDATE (4/15/2010):
I rode my bike again with the OEM power valve spring and the temperature was 85 degF. I learned a couple of things from my ride. First, the OEM spring worked excellent with the PWK. There was no bog sensation that was present with the softer spring combination. The bike had a strong low end and I could lug down in 2nd gear and power out of corners with minimal clutch work. I could not do this previously. I was very happy!

Second observation was that I could keep the jetting slightly richer than before. The air screw was turned out to 1.5 turns, same jets as above, and same clip setting (#4). Even though the temperature was hot at 85 degF, the bike pulled cleanly from low to mid throttle. I rode tight woods so I couldn't verify the WFO throttle today.

Another observation upon disassembly of the softer spring combination (orange + green) was that the upper link arm that's preloaded with the torsion spring was sloppy. You could see the link arm wobble from freeplay side-to-side before actuating the power valve. When I replaced the power valve spring with the OEM version (stiffer), the slop in the upper link arm went away. This is just something to consider when you are swapping out the springs. Be careful not to induce "extra slop" in the linkage system. For my bike, it made the power valve open too early or not stay closed properly (causing poor low end response). In any case, the OEM spring is working very good. I may try the "white + silver" spring combination, but anything softer would be bad on my bike.

hope get some usefull replies. husky wr125 2007. sea level. used for enduro riding competitively. weight of our riders 59kg and 63kg 15 and 16 year olds .
we need more bottom end power as you pull away and as you approach a rocky or sandy hill , you have to slip the clutch to keep it going in the power . simply opening the throttle does nothing and it takes time to sort of build up then hit powerband.
main jet 390 running sweet on top end plus on colour of plug .
60 needle middle clip ie 2 down from top.
35 pilot jet .
2-3 turns out on air screw .
std pipe but with all emissions removed .
std air filter etc etc
some say 30 pilot ??? plse advise it did work on a wr250 i sold last week
but will this work on the 125

i look forward to replies

Still a little bit of a hole at 1/4 throttle, but pulls hard right through to top, I think it could go a little more with a larger main.
 
I didnt have as good of luck with the Keihin as some of you guys...it had an iffy response at light load/ high speed over whoops..or jump landings Its didnt matter what I did to it...it bugged me and I put my mikuni back on

However as the warmer weather stabilized....I put the keihin back on and I am very impressed with how it runs..the trick was the air screw at 1.5 turns was the problem....its perfect at 3/4 turn(pilot is a bit small)

I will do the 144 kit at about 1500kms (1200kms now)

Conclusions/Results = Works VERY well. Got rid of the mid range bog / hesitation. Less of an over Carburated feeling. NO NOTICEABLE LOSS IN TOP END POWER. A slight improvement over the 38mm with the NOZF needle. Both setups working very good, with the nod going to the 36mm. So in conclusion, if you have a 38mm then get the NOZF needle and the jetting from the previous post and enjoy. If you are just now buying a Carb then go with the 36mm PWK and the above jetting. Contact (PM) me and I can direct you to a shop that will sell you a new 36mm PWK at a greatly reduced price. You will have to talk to the Parts Manager directly and mention my name and Cafe Husky to get that price. Over $100 cheaper than retail.​

Main jet = 170 (stock) (tried a 172 and got a bit of a slight blubber at 3/4+ throttle till at RPM)​
Pilot jet = 38 (stock #42) (May try 35 with Air Screw set at 1 1/2)​

Air screw setting = 2 1/2 (stock 1 3/4) (May try 35 with Air Screw set at 1 1/2)​
Slide = 6.0 (stock 7.0) Reason for changes is that there is now a flat spot at the 1/4 throttle position. I am extremely close. Testing the next weekend.​
