  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

'12 TXC310 Build Up

Alright so I finally took the 310 for a good ride today. It was pretty fun and I learned some more about the bike. First off, I think it needs 1 or 2 teeth added to the rear to help it out in 3rd more (to help pull the low end on the hills). Suspension still isn't very good. Also that the little black shrouds break a lot. I've already replaced it once before and I broke it off again today!!! Tires that come stock on the bike were not that great today. Several people reported that they felt like they were riding on ice when they rode my bike today (their were 10 of us most of them are A class guys that ride GNCC). I will be switching to an MX51 in the front and a trials tire in the rear. Been hearing great things about them. So for the ride report...it was exciting to say the least. Some parts were tough, but over all it wasn't to terribly tough (mind you that I am not an A class rider, I am more of a C class guy). However, some parts were tough. A guys always seem to find tough stuff to ride. IT was going good until I blew out the front tire in some rocks (it was nothing but rocks and mud really). I asked how long till we got back to the truck (cause its pretty tough to ride on a blown front tire) and they said at least 45 minutes. So we started heading back. I was going up a rocky hill climb in 4th gear about 3/4 throttle tring to keep the front end light (so it didn't try to understeer from no air pressure), and hit some bigger rocks and went for a tumble. Bent the bars, tweaked the handguards, turned my bars in the bar mounts, ripped my plastic outta place, bent the aluminum tabs for the seat (on the sub frame), ripped off the black shroud, and blew out my rear tire also. Also drove my face into a pile of rocks. Messed myself up pretty good. Hit my shoulder and my head on the ground and than drove my chin into the ground (that hurt, it bled for awhile and took all the skin and hair off when I hit the ground). Also gave me a pretty good head ache. Worst part? Still had another 20 minutes until we would be back to the truck :( Sucked it up and put my head down and limped it the rest of the way back. Ooo and we went through some knee deep water and big rocks on the way back, that was actually pretty cool. But the day was good other than the crashing part. Those guys told me the cycle goes a little like this; crash, clean, fix, ride, repeat... and that sounds about right. Over all though, I enjoyed the day. Met great people, and learned some more about the bike.

hell yeah man. I am just getting used to my bike too and though I havent fallen yet, I know what you mean. Takes a while before the bike feels just like an extension of yourself. I'm lightweight too and I'm not sure what to do with the suspension either. I will say I backed the clickers wayy out almost all the way out and it rides wayy better and more controlled. I wonder if you're using the all the travel that the bike has.

I want to soften it up, but my problem is that if i make it softer, it will bottom out even worse on the motocross track :( So I'm not sure what to do. But I am going to try a couple different things with the clickers.

Yeah, are you sure it is bottoming out? I guess sometimes I think I am too but I don't really know.

Try backing off the 'high speed' compression clicker.

I think this is why people send out their suspension to get revalved and resprung.

Anyways see this thread, there is some good instruction about the right way to figure out which clicker settings work for you:

Best upgrade I did on my 13 TXC310 was get the suspension revalved and resprung for me. Stock suspension was terrible at race speed and no amount of clicker turning was going to cure it. Now bike is fricken awesome! My suspension guy said the valving in forks was screwy. Shock wasn't as bad. The way the clickers worked too, wasn't doing much unless you really turned em in. He did his magic and it transformed bike. Raced it last weekend and didn't have one complaint. Didn't really even notice suspension much.....to me that's a good sign!

Just put a zip tie on the fork and see where it is at the end of the day

I used to do that when I raced atv's to see how much travel I was using. However on the bike you can usually tell by where the dust line or mud line is. I can already tell that I am using all but maybe 1-2 inches of the front fork. I will have to use the zip ty method on the rear.

Send it to Zipty

Lol look at Tinken, of course he "likes" the sounds of that! haa But all kiding aside I'd like to send it to them, but I just don't have the extra cash right now. Plus I want to try some different clicker setting first before I send them off, just to be able to give them some input on what did or did not help. I am not the greatest rider, so I need to work on my technique some more before I start throwing more money into it.

Where's the best place to get sprockets? I am looking for a steel rear sprocket (looking for longevity and don't care about weight). I am going to try 2 more teeth on the rear, and am just trying to find the best price on a rear sprocket. Help me out guys! :excuseme:

I also just ordered a set of BikeBonz bar mounts because I twisted mine in the crash. They will mount the handguards also, very neat and less expensive than BRP mounts.

i have one of these on my 310. light and strong. well worth the extra $$ i reckon.

For me it's all mostly about price right now. I have friends who also swear by them, but to me they just aren't worth the extra cash. I can replace 2 or 3 steel sprockets for that amount of money and 2 steel sprockets will far out last one of the iron man sprockets. Besides, im not sure if I am going to like the new gearing or not, so I don't want an expensive sprocket just for testing.

Got it torn apart now replacing things from the crash.

All the problems with the front end geometry and it was this little washer on the lower bar mounts!!
