  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Which Bike is right for me?

Im telling you my bike does 70+ with the 50t...no crack for this kid...lol...I dont do that all the time...I was on the street few days back doing 70...didn't sound like it was going to blow...runs good...bike is stock except for an uptite muffler...George did the tune on the bike...
Excuse me for not believing you, but I don't. If that thing is comfortable at 70+ MPH with a 50 on the rear... I'm the Pope. My 449 feels like a buzz bomb at 55+ with a 50 on the rear. I can't stand to ride it for more than a mile or two at 60 mph... my ass cheeks fall asleep. I wanna see a vid of sustained 70+ riding on a 310.

If that's your thought process then you've answered your own question as there's no way for the 449 to feel as light or nimble as the 310. While the 449(mine is a TXC449) carries it's weight well the x-light platform is just a smaller lighter starting point and that coupled with less inertia from the 310 engine in comparison to the larger 449 makes the 310 the choice if lighter and nimble is what you're after.
+1. My 449 is the best all-around bike I've ever owned. It feels WAY lighter than the typical 450, but it can't compete directly with the 250/310 in a "lightweight feel" contest... and I've owned 2 X-lite 250 Huskies.

absolutely.

If stock gearing performs well enough off road AND lets me go the speed limit on the road between trails, I'm set. Forgot to mention that the 449 is almost 2 grand cheaper, though ...

I'm going to the nearest dealer (3 hours away) tomorrow to test ride both. I know it won't be the same in their parking lot, but at least I can get SOME kind of feel for them.

I'm just saying that the bike will go 70+....Is it comfortable...not really...now what Mr. Pope??
 I've got a 1971 Hodaka Ace 100 that'll do just under the speed of light if catapulted from the International Space Station...... That doesn't mean I want my ass fastened to the seat while it's going that fast.

It's great that you'll be able to test ride both bikes. That is the only true way to make the best choice.

The 449 might take more than a parking lot ride to understand. Don't let first impression confuse you on this bike. It can be slightly different for a minute to some.

You talking about the CTS and how it affects the bike, or just the bike overall?

My experience is that the pavement between off-road sections is less than 5 or 10 miles. What's wrong with buzzing along at a reasonable 50mph and enjoying the scenery for 10 or 15 minutes while on the pavement, in order to have the benefit of the right gearing for when it really counts? Get to the dirt, then letrrrrip!

I agree. I have an 09 TE310, so I'm not sure the internal trans ratios are the same, but I run a 12/49 combo which I find perfect for the tightest trails, yet on the road 50 mph equals about 7500 RPM, which is nothing for the 310. It will rev to 12. If you really need to go 70 mph between trail sections, then you may have a problem, but it probably can be done.

I agree with your statement as well. I didn't buy my 449 to be a comfortable freeway cruiser. But I still couldn't imagine going 10 or 15 miles at speeds greater than 55 mph without my butt cheeks falling asleep. I can't even fathom what that would be like on a 310.

One thing you can discern even on a short pavement spin is the lack of torque bobbing of the CTS configured bikes...I was surprised and pleased by this when I tested a 449. In my opinion this translates into better hookup on whoops in the dirt, and great straightline stability in said whoops ....while still being easy to turn. The chassis is what sold me on my TXC511, the sweet motor is just gravy (I also own an '11 TE250 and a WR300 and still find the 511 a better bike offroad under all conditions I have found so far.)

Well, I tested both of them today and the decision is clear. It's the 310 for me.

We rode down a few streets to a parking lot where I switched over to the 449...and almost dumped it. Now, I ride a Ninja ZX-6R that makes ~110bhp, but that 449 was too much for me. I realize that the pavement is a lot different than off road, but I just don't see myself wanting or needing all that power (at least not for a while). The 310 seems like it'll be torquey enough, especially after removing the throttle stop.

The problem that people are missing is you are comparing a 2010 310 which is a completely different motor, chasis, and everything else to a 2011 x-lite 310. Completely different bikes.
