  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc 09 wr250 clutch

I love my wr250. It's a great versatile bike. One thing that never stops annoying me is the clutch lever/perch. It's just too far out and too hard to pull for my small hands. I like to ride with my fingers over the clutch at all times. I find this hard on the WR as it's a long way out.
I would love to buy a hydraulic set up but i can't find one. I am worried about changing the clutch perch as i don't want to end up with one that can't pull enough cable causing me to stall.
Anyone else have this problem? Got a solution?

I had the same problem. Works Connection Elite lever. It lightened the pull and has a screw that allows you to adjust the stop point. Slide it in toward the center as far as you can stand then adjust in it until it feels right to you.

The Elite uses a Honda leverage ratio, as many other after market levers do, so you may get them same results with one that's less expensive.

I just put together a hydraulic clutch system for my WR 250. This is the best thing I have ever done to the bike. I will post pics when I get a chance.

Does the clutch bind with that set up? I would hate to stall every time i lock up.

Did you get the Magura one?

I think the WR really needs one. I must adjust the clutch 20-30 times per ride. It's always out of adjustment it seems.

Yeah, I got the Magua master and slave cylinders then made an adapter to fit the WR. Kind of a proto type job...

If anybody is interested, I am considering making up 10 sets and trying to sell them. If I can get commitments from a couple people I will get working on the kits.

The pull is has to be 20% (maybe less) compared to the stock cable system.

I did the Greenbriar enduro last Sunday. They had a pretty long tight section and all I thought while in there was "this clutch is awesome".

The hyd. clutch is the second best investment I made on the bike (#1 was sending the suspension to WER!)

I will try to post some pics of the set up over the weekend.

I seem to hear alot of complants about the clutches on the WR, the only problem I have is starting the bike in gear, sometimes. Clean and lube the cable once and a awhile and it feels better than a lot of hyro clutches i've felt, not worth spending $250 on.
You guys must have small hands, I don't have big hands (M/L glove) and I have no problems with the lever?

I love the feel of the clutch on my WR, but it always seems out of adjustment and causes a lot of missed shifts. I'll literally have to tighten in 15-20 times during a 50 mile ride.

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a hydro clutch. Any chance you can post your setup and what you needed to modify to make it work?

I NEED a hydro clutch. I'm surprised there's not more complaints about this. I miss every other shift due to the clutch always being out of adjustment. Its out of adjustment 80% more often than my other smokers :excuseme:

Anyone else using Rotella T 15-40 and having clutch fade issues?

I don't want to start an oil war thread but I've found that ATF works best in my WR250. All other oils that I used caused problems with the clutch drag. I am a harescramble racer that falls over OFTEN, so I needed to be able to restart in gear - which I can do when I use atf in the case.

I have a HEBO hydro that Fred Hoess used to sell.

I believe you can still get the universal clutch kit from Trials Shop.

It works great...and is super reliable over the last 6yrs.

Sorry I missed this, but no, I'm not having any issues with the lever. The raito makes the pull lighter and it has a stop screw that lets you adjust the lever in toward the bar. I've set mine in to where my clutch finger sits on it just right.

I'll have to agree on the lighter tranny oils, this gearbox seems to like them better. ATF seems to be the way to go, but I've been running Castrol Power RS R4 4T - 5w40 with great results.

I installed an ASV unbreakable lever on mine, works great! Shape of lever is totally adjustable to any hand size. My pull isn`t that bad at all, and I`ve only had to adjust on the fly maybe once during a 2 hr. race! I use Motul tranny fluid, works fine, starts in gear good also.

Whoops!!! Should have said travel on lever is totally adjustable, not shape!! shape of lever is a little wider than stock, very comfortable!
