  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

09 TXC450 boiling coolant?

Husqvarna
AA Class
So, I took the new bike out today for the maiden trail ride. I warmed it up for roughly 5 mins, and then off for some 2nd & 3rd gear cruises around the fields on our property. After about 20 mins of just making some easy fun laps, I pointed it towards the woods.... roughly 5 mins down to the bottom, and a minute or two up the hill... stalled the bike  .. and heard coolant boiling. I found the nearest tree, and just hung out for a while. There was coolant in the overflow, but not an unreasonable level. The bike seems to start fine (QUICK), idle fine, and runs out fine. It's not as unGodly fast as my old YZ, but it pulls fine (I guess.... never been on a thumper).

I checked fluids (including coolant level) before I headed out today. I haven't opened the radiator since getting home, but I did note that the overflow bottle was almost empty (where it was when the bike was cold)

Thoughts?

Sure, but should it be boiling? It sounded quite violent. This the first bike I've had with an overflow bottle. I would think that if this were normal, I would've been constantly adding coolant to my other bikes without overflow bottles. Maybe it's just a 4 stroke thing, as I never heard such a racket on my 2 strokes.

If it matters... the headpipe has also turned blue from the cylinder to the muffler.

It's new and breaking in. I've not heard about a TXC that boils over constantly after it been broken in. The TE's have a fan...not sure about the TXC's. Turning blue is normal for the TI.

It's normal for breaking in a bike for this time of year to get a little boil over. I have found installing Engine Ice and a stiffer rad cap means no boiling over for the most part even in this heat on my TXC510.

Engine Ice is a valuable addition to any bike. Not saying it will cure your issues but it is definitely better than stock coolant.

I have a digital thermometer that I use when I play ride and I notice a 10 degree different between Engine Ice and stock coolant. Has to help a little on my screaming 125.

Engine Ice. It was the only way I could keep my KTM's from puking out every ounce of coolant in their radiators. Using Engine Ice in my Husky's, I've NEVER puked coolant... even into the overflow tank.

I just use distilled water and some water wetter on my TC450. Takes a lot more to get it to boil. No catch tank. There is a plastic ''T'' that is a good idea to change to brass or aluminium also.

I don't like the idea of increasing the boil temps and pressure with coolants and a radiator cap.
