  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

09 TXC 450 and 09 TE 450

Husqvarna
C Class
I've done some searching in various forums regarding the differences between these two models and from what I understand they have the same bottom engine, meaning same transmission, but different top. It seems that the top of the TXC is that of a TC. Is this correct and does this mean that the TXC will rev up quicker than the TE... and would handle more like a motocross bike?

My riding includes some single track, a lot of double track gravel dirt roads, dessert, dry river beds (round loose golf ball size pebbles) and some paved back roads to connect trails. I know I can add lights to the TXC and get it plated in my area. Is the stator and output exactly the same on both bikes?

I know the TE 450 suits my needs perfectly, but I'm a bit wary about FI and the gas pump failing out in the middle of nowhere. The other reason I'm considering the TXC is that my local dealer can get me a better deal on the TXC.

We normally ride for 8 or 10 hours so I intend to change the seat and gas tank on either model, but I'm wondering if the same aftermarket seats, tanks, tail racks, etc are available for both models.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

With your ability to get the plate for the TXC, the length of your rides and your ride description I think both models would suit you quite well. Differentiating which would be better for you will be difficult. I don't know if the TXC top end is exactly like the tc but know it's closer to that than the te. Probably still in a different state of tune than either. I think if the little more maintenance that the TXC would require and plating and lighting it is not an issue at all, that might be the way to go. If you didn't want to bother with those the te would be the way to go at a small sacrifice of power because of it's milder state of tune. My riding description matches yous nearly exact. I have the 08 te450 and find on the 2 track and gravel road type stuff it's near perfect. I also find on the single track stuff even with a milder state of tune than the TXC, it becomes a bit of a handful especially twards the end of the ride.

The gas tanks will be different because of the te's FI, but I believe a larger tank is made for both. I think they use the same seat for both, but not so sure about the rear rack. The te has a little extra subframe that I believe the TXC does not have.

Good luck.

The TXC engines should be a little more hopped up than the TEs and REV a ~little quicker ... Not 100% sure how unless it is the cams and ignition stuff ( FWW, timing.. ??) ...

Suspension wise, the TXC will be more suited to the off-roads out of the box ... Not sure on the exact forks U might have as Husky has been swapping between Marzzochi (open and closed chambers) and KYBs ... Many here send the forks off to be tuned so it really does not matter if you go that route ... My 08 TXC250 has the closed chamber Marzocchis and dialed in pretty good without professional work ... Just guys here helped me get the ride I was looking for ...

Not sure on the stator but the TXC is no slouch but may not be what the TE is because the TE comes with all the lights installed ... The TXC can probably can run everything but HID lights ... I think it is Uptite Husky who sells a very cool LED light that fits right on the TE front plate and plugs right into the circuit ...

I can't handle FI here either ... too many possible issues and I'm a long way from home ... I think someone did find a pump replacement that is much lower cost than the OEM one ... If you do go the FI route, you need to read all the threads on how to mount the OEM pump correctly in the tank to keep it from stopping U on the trails ...

Seats and all this stuff should be available and about the same for both ...

I'd go with the TXC 4 sure ... This Husky is the first 4t I have owned and it is a very good bike for everything I do ... Top speed is not too high as these are dirt bikes ... not so much dualsport \ ADV bikes ... and the seat is hard as a rail ...

And I'm sure some more owners will give U better details on their bikes .. Good luck on UR bike ... You might be amazed on what a Husky can do 4 U ... :)

Thanks for your replies.

I can't find spec sheets for this bikes. Can anyone offer a link were I can download the specs?

Anybody know if the 09 TXC 450 comes with a radiator fan and 6 gear tranny?

Thanks for the link for the parts diagram.

They also show a different part number for the stator (pg 66 and 67). So my guess is that the output would be different for each model...therefore I would probably have to upgrade the stator on the TXC to install lights and a fan. What do you think?

Yes the TE have a more powerful stator output for all the lights, fuel injection stuff. I do not know for the TXC if the stator would be ok, i would venture to say yes but probably not enough for a 70 watts ish halogen headlight, fan and other. Worse case if you get the TXC just install a voltage rectifier/regulator and give it a try and if not satisfied then just upgrade the stator at that point this is an easy job to do.

I think I'm gonna go with the TXC and upgrade the stator. With the TE, I was going to replace the headlights, seat and tank anyway. Thanks for all the input and comments. I'll post pics as soon as I bring it home!

While the FI is not perfect, I trust mine 09 450 TE as much if not more than my Carb bike. My rides will run 250 to 1000 miles or more from desert to high mountain passes. As remote as can be had in the USA, which isn't really remote any more.

You might wanna get a 14t FS to go with the bike also ... It will help cut a few RPMs off the topend and spread that 6 speed out nicely allowing you to run in 1 gear ~longer ... 1st gear should still be low enough to pull most trails unless it gets really technical ...

And JDjetting makes a kit that contains a different needle jet and main and pilot jets ... Most here also do a 0ring trick to help the accelerator pump ...

Good luck on the riding ...
