  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

09 TE450 Suspension Setup

I'm no pro when it comes to suspension tuning so I figured I'd turn to you guys. Just purchased my te450 and as far as I can tell, it has all stock suspension. The fellow I bought it from was on the small side so I've been adjusting everything for my riding preference. I am 6'0 and 200lbs. I have the clickers turned all the way up but it still feels soft to me. Am I looking at new fork springs and rear spring? Curious to hear what you guys advise and see how others have their suspension set up.

Yes, guys! looking for the same advice. I am a tall and heavy rider (6'4" - 250lbs) riding a 2009 TE450. The bike has plenty of power for me; but I need to know where to get a rear spring for this beast. Thanks in advance

Jason

My first port of call would be the Racetech website: http://racetech.com/ProductSearch/1/Husqvarna/TE450/2009

Racetech use Ebach springs and I believe they make the heaviest spring available. Just did a quick check for you and it seems you need to call them. They recommend a 7.07 kg/mm for your weight but the heaviest spring they have is 6.4kg/mm, so you are probably going to need to compromise on your rear sag settings. My understanding is that you go for less static sag and get your race sag closer to the 100mm mark by having more preload on the spring. If you do this you'll probably need to add a few clicks onto your rebound damping as the spring will have more stored energy and will rebound faster/harder than if you have less preload. I have a suspicion Ebach actually do a 6.8km/mm spring too but it isn't listed by Racetech. That's why giving them a call would be a good idea.

IMO Racetech are the best suspension parts company around, but that's maybe just because their Australian rep here is so good.

Incidentally, it looks like you need to make a significant step up on your fork springs too.

Watson Suspension has experience with this chassis.
Tell Tom I sent you.

My experience as a fat guy who rides in the desert is that Race Tech's website spring recommendations are on the stiff side.
