  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

'09 te310 gearing?

Sceep

Husqvarna
AA Class
What are you all running for gearing on your 310's?

Mine is @ 12/50 and is a goat on the trails, but is screaming @ 50mph/8100 rpm.

what rpm does the rev limiter hit?

what is a safe rpm for linking trails on pavement? (98% singletrack, but have to link some trails up to 15 miles of slab)

I'm liking the bike so far but it seems to have a lot less power than my old xr413r. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, just will take some getting used to.

13/50 is what I ran on my 2008 TE250 and 2010 TE310. I used the bike for tight single track, fireroads and some pavement. Don't keep a steady rpm when on the road. 8-9000 rpm is ok for short 10-15 mile linking trails.

Limiter is at 11,400

Power wise your TE310 will have the same if not more top HP as the 413. However the torque will be much less and this is what you are feeling. Still the TE will go more places the XR did and with less energy. Is your TE in PU mode?

Thanks for the info. What is PU mode?

another thing, this thing seems to Suck fuel down. i have not played with the jd tuner yet, but i'm only getting ~50 miles out of the stock tank (reserve light came on at 40miles of nasty singletrack)

PU=Power up mode (O2 sensor and cat removed, race map 1 on display)
I have found my JD tuner is very rich, more you quickly twist the throttle the faster the fuel goes! This year I will be using the race ECU and having the FI settings changed via Ibeat and wideband O2 sensor. My 2008 TE250 ran 60 singletrack or 80 road per tank. My 2010 TE310 gets 40 miles single track and 55 miles road. I know it's rich as I can smell raw gas on low end. JD reccomended settings are a starting point. Play with the green and red/blue (AP) moving down.

yes o2 and cat are removed, will have to double check the display but i believe it is on rm1.

I'm sure the previous owner had the jd dialed in pretty damn good, but will mess with it some as soon as i can.
thanks.

Put it this way, there is a factory Rev-Limiter I believe for most 250/310 models and if I remember correctly - limits RPMS to about 6500 (when it's corked)

So to be on the safe side, I'd try to keep it at 6500 or below if you are traveling more then a mile - but I honestly have no clue  Any engine isn't really meant to sustain those RPMS for long travel - just make sure you are doing the proper oil changes for uncorked bike. But if you are keeping an engine revved above 6500 rpms for long periods, something is bound to come loose and grenade.

looked up the racemap in the owners manual and it says to switch it via a mode button on the right hand.

my te has no such button.

any ideas how to switch between maps?

I have a 2010 TE250, and when you plug the o2 sensor, it switches maps automatically from what I understand. Only the later models I believe have the mode switch button on handlebars (2011 + ?)...

Sounds like your bike is in powerup mode. The previous owner probably did all the standard power up mods. I'm not sure what it's called , but there is a factory 'stopper' that prevents revs going beyond 6500-7000rpms.. so if you are hitting the 8000rpm range - then your bike is 'uncorked' and powered up. How many miles ya got on that?

13/45 here
2012 TE310, powered up with Uptite exhaust
race ECU/12 port injector

Way better for highway or fire roads. 60 cruising @ 7000, right in the
Middle of power curve

Single track mostly i would go 50.

Getting a Rekluse in a few weeks..on order

speedo was involved in a detrimental incident at 1200 miles per the odometer, previous owner guessed he had 1-2k on it after that. i fixed it the day i brought it home so i'll just call it 3500 to be safe.

I use 14/50. It still gives good power in single track 1st gear tight hills. Sits at about 7000 rpm at 80 km/h. I sometimes go faster than that but not when commuting, don't let it sit at revs above 7-8000 for any more than a few miles.

My 09 TE310 is at 9,400 miles. I have done nothing to the engine other than a few minor valve adjustments. I run 12/49 gearing and at 8000 rpm am at about 52 mph. IMO, 8 grand is just in the good power range and I run at these speeds and higher on the open roads. Believe it or not, I actually hit 79 mph once (going down hill). I don't know what the RPM was, but these bikes will rev. I'm an old guy but ride pretty hard. This bike has been bullet proof for the last three years. It is starting to burn a little bit of oil now. You want some video of me chasing KTM's and Yamaha's, here is one of my favorites. https://vimeo.com/album/1743477/video/33312670

You can get the mode switch from Husky. Its a push button, mounts on the handlebar and plugs in behind the headlight. It switches from normal mode (SEL1) to slippery mode (SEL2). SEL2 gives you a milder power down low for, you guessed it, slippery conditions. This on my 09. I like and use it.

The manual was probably referring to the mode switch part #8000H0590 . Some call it wet and dry mode switch changes from sel1 to sel2 when depressed during idle . My 09 TE310 seems to lug better in tight rocky single track with it in sel2 with less flame out . It's a simple install pig tail connects to a plug behind the headlight .

update.

hit 73mph last weekend @ 10,300 rpm on the 12/50 combo.

trials tires @ 8 psi don't need to go that fast.

I'm surprised to see how many people are fine letting the RPMS go above 7000 for miles at a time. Just asking for a rebuild sooner then later.

I found it helpful to calculate the ratios so I could more easily see the differences.

13/40 3.08
13/45 3.46
13/50 3.85
13/52 4.00
12/49 4.08
12/50 4.17

Stock is 13/50. Some years included a 13/40 for street use. I chose 13/52. Trail ride in 2-5 gears. The low first is nice for steep technical hills. Ride as fast as low 60s on the highway with RPMs in the upper 8000s for a few miles. If I keep the speed down to low 50s, the RPM is the same as fast trail riding. Right in middle of the power band. 4100 miles on this setup.

Henson802, The "stopper" from the factory is not a rev limiter and has nothing to do with what is safe for the engine. It is a mechanical stop on the available throttle for sound and emissions measurement purposes. A factory "corked" 310 won't pull grandma out of bed.

Blue button on the handlebars is an ignition map switch... has nothing to do with fuel. I have it but I never use it... 09 TE 310... 6000+ miles on the odo... PCV/AT.
Also I run 13/50 gearing and I commute on this thing also... It's about the best gearing compromise for trail and street... IMO.
Ride it like you stole it... these bikes are tougher than some folks above ^^^ think... Bike likes to rev... power comes on at 7k... the guy who never takes his bike above 7k must be afraid of his bike. Change the oil regularly, check the valves occasionally... watch for loosening fasteners... fix the known issues... ride, ride, ride.
Any bike can grenade whenever and at any rpm... ride it.
