  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

09 510 TE throttle block

Just got my new 09 510 te. At the dealer they said I could remove the throttle block but what they described looks nothing like what Im looking at. Also none of the other posts here look the same. Were there any changes from 08 to 09? Any help w/ pics would be helpful as bikes in general are new to me. Thanks

Welcome to CafeHusky, paramedicmeyer  My sister lives in Fort Bragg and it's pretty much dualsport heaven there

I don't know anything about throttle blocks (throttle stop?) but I'm sure someone here can/will help you.

  • Take a look at the FI system on the right side of the bike- under the tank-
  • see the throttle cable cover- there's an allen head bolt holding it on- take it off.
  • look at the throttle wheel- loosen the cables - take the cables off- or loose enough to get around them with a screw driver-
  • see the two Phillips head screws- they hold on the throttle stop plate- take them off- now take the plate off- put the two screws back in -
  • tighten the cables- so there's just a little slack- check that it returns well and adjust as needed- put the cover back on- then throw the throttle stop plate in a box.

I just bought an 09' SMR - noticed this throttle stop, the dealer will hopefully take all the restricted parts off.

With stop installed, circled.

Well if we can establish some reasonably concrete information then you can start up a new thread and I can add a copy to the tech ref section cause the topic is going to come up again.

You do want to see your name in lights don't you?

Just noticed this thread is in the common topics section...

Nah, just want to help somebody else much like your valve check video did for me. Haven't heard of any physical changes on the Mikuni throttle bodies between 08 and 09 so am ASSuming they're at least similar in configuration. :)

Could someone confirm what year bikes those pics are relevant to?

2008/2009 TEs?

Yes- its the same as my 09TE450.
I just gotta see Ioneater's name in lights. Coffee, See what you can do!:busted:

I can confirm that it's exactly the same as the 09 510 TE. Just pulled mine off and it's identical. No thanks to the smart dealer who told me it was on the opposite side. Could anybody comment on what to loosen to move the throttle caboe out of the way. At the tube or directly in the box?

That is what 'your name in lights' means - filing threads away to help the next person.

Question - what does "HTH" mean in reference to the second pic?

Done! Here is a new thread,
http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2592

and I put a copy in the Tech Ref section. Just keep posting to this thread and someone a year from now will wake the other thread up if they have a question. This thread is a bit cluttered now.

Thanks!

I loosened the cables down at the throttle body by backing off the jamnuts and swagged it when retightening ensuring full throttle travel could be achieved.
