  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc 09 125 WR/CR jetting thread

Thought i would start a thread so we had one place for the jetting.

These are emission limited stock and need the stock jetting round filed as it will not even run this way. The kit comes like this...

Main Jet (450)-460-(470)
Jet Needle XP-5824-01 (third clip)
Pilot Jet (40)-45-(50)
Piston Valve 4.0
Adjuster Screw 1+1/2
Starter Air Jet 80 (screwed type)

My 09 WR125 came with a different needle than listed and is a...

6 DEY 15-47

I did my first ride with...

Main Jet 460
Jet Needle 6 DEY 15-47 (third clip)
Pilot Jet 40
Piston Valve 4.0

The main issue with this jetting on my bike is a mid range flat spot. If you raise the needle (richer) the mid gets better but gets blubbery off the bottom. With this needle the best possible solution would be to raise the needle and put a smaller pilot in.

Ultimately having the right needle would be the solution. That said i call (CPW) Carb Parts Warehouse who sells parts and loves to sell PWK carb replacements. These guys seem kinda rude on the phone and he just flat told me this carb was crap and i needed a new PWK. No thanks, I'd rather buy a $4 needle. He told me they did not have needles for them and they were proprietary husky needles. Huh? these come in Polaris sleds, Yamaha's etc. He also said they would not use the older TMX needles event hough they use all the same jets.

So with all this in mind i went out to the shop and dug up 5 TMX needles. here is what i found.

- Older TMX needles are the same diameter where they mount to the slide. The length is the same as well but the clip grooves are one groove lower. So physically they will fit.

Measuring them up I find that the major dia on all the older TMX carbs needles are smaller (richer) and the point is larger (leaner). Not sure if this is what I want. As the needle is smaller and richer is also is a leaner tapper. So as you open the throttle it does not get as rich as the 6DEY needle. I will try it and see.

Here is the 6DEY (bottom) and the 6JD-8-59 from the older TMX carbs. Note the length and clip positions.

See how the lower needle that came in the kit gets much richer at full opening. (but starts leaner)

The older TMX had a single taper needle...if you look real close at your pic of the new needle....you can see three area's

The three letters on the new TMX needle are triple taper and are different (in terms of shape)

Letters DEY indicate triple taper needle. D=1degree taper, E=1degree15min, Y=6degree15min.

here is an example

Mikuni needle PN: 6dey26-66
The -66 translates to the straight part of the needle being 2.66mm in diameter.

Other options:
6dey26-67 = 2.67mm dia.
6dey27-66 is a 1/2 clip richer than a 6dey26-66

I had to look high and low for this info......and wish someone would disclose more.....I know that the Jap 125s have many variations of these needles....as well as JD

However...... the jetting on my WR seems pretty crisp.....40 pilot.. 470 main.. needle 2nd clip from top @ 3500 to 3800 ft

What elevation are you at...???

250-1700 typically (45-70 temp) until mid summer when the higher elevation stuff opens up then 1500-4500 (60-85 temps).

We ran our CR in race practice (race is tomorrow) with the following:

Elevation 520 ft.
Temp. 88 degrees.

Pilot. 32.5
Stock needle. Raised a clip (richer), clip on 4th notch.
Main. 450

We were literally the ONLY bike that didn't sound like a wheezing, 90-year-old man. We actually had several 4 stroke riders ask us what jetting we were using (yes 4 stroke riders???). I think most of the riders still had their jetting set rich for much lower temps.

The CR ran like a scalded dog today! My son held his own against a few 250F's and most other 125 2t's. The ultimate compliment came when he held an '08 KTM 250 SXF at bay for most of the practice heat and then stopped and let the rider go by as he waited for a YZ 125 to get closer. After the heat, the KTM rider came over to our camp and drilled us for info on the Husky.

Your bike is being sacrificed for a good cause! I wish I had a 09 to test jetting. As soon as I get a tank is the day I buy a 09125!!

Jay told me he had two '09 125's sold, only if he had the big tank..... Yours must be one!

You are correct! He has already sold 2 WR 125's. I only ride CR 125's So far....

I know my eyes are not very good but I swear my needles were stamped BFY not DEY
The one that came with the bike was a 6BFY43-74
and the one that was in the CR Carb mod box was a 6BFY15-74.

Are my eyes that bad....

I gotta go look with a magnifying glass.

Norm and Dave you are right....6BFY15-74 is the power up needle in the kit...and the 6BFY 43-74 is the lean restr. euro needle....

I did some more research on the taper caper.....

Needle Tapers
Letter Taper Letter Taper
A 0º 15' N 3º 30'
B 0º 30' O 3º 45'
C 0º 45' P 4º 00'
D 1º 00' Q 4º 15'
E 1º 15' R 4º 30'
F 1º 30' S 4º 45'
G 1º 45' T 5º 00'
H 2º 00' U 5º 15'
I 2º 15' V 5º 30'
J 2º 30' W 5º 45'
K 2º 45' X 6º 00'
L 3º 00' Y 6º 15'
M 3º 15' Z 6º 30'

Lets use this needle as an example 6BFY15-74

the 6 means for mikuni TMX

the B is the taper closest to the top or clip area 0 deg 30 minutes

F is the middle taper 1 deg 30 min

Y is the bottom taper 6deg 15 min

the steeper the taper(more angle) uncovers more nozzle area therefore G is richer than F....in that taper range

sometime an additional number will come after the needle spec 6BFY15-74-3

the 3 is the recommended clip setting.....

BTW 15min is quarter deg... 30 min is half deg...45 min is three quarter deg...

Jet Effectiveness

A=Most effective

C=Little influence

B=Partly effective

D=No influence

Hello Guys

There is some problems with jetting of the new WR/CR 125 2009.

It is very difficult to solve this without use the new parts that are dilivered from Huskyfactory. There is a tread here at huskycafe.

The new powervalves solve the problem. We have tested this weekend here in sweden.

The bike run great with sock jettting.

Klas...If I may ask....having run the new parts.....what can we expect..?????

is the exhaust different.....and what about the silencer...???

Big thanks for browsing this thread...and chiming in

Rode my bike in an area with very steep hill climbs and was very disappointed. Played with the needle all over the place and made little to no difference. Falls flat in it's face in the mid, bottom crawls pretty good and top end rips but getting to the top end past the huge hole in middle is very hard and when it drops off again you beck in the huge hole. On up-hills I was fanning the crap out of the clutch to make it up. Something is not right. My 04 did not do this.

What is the power valve mod / upgrade? Maybe I need to stop chasing the jetting and fix the power valve.

- Love the bike hate the gigantic hole in the mid range.

Glad I'm not the only one disappointed with this 125 when it comes to hill climbs. Which there are way to many of around here.
I think I'll park mine for awhile a start practicing with my trials.

We have our national come up in May and I haven't rode it since last year.

For some reason (Power Now?) my '09 doesn't do this. Hills I'd be feathering the clutch on my '02, it motors right up. I'm still prefered power up jetting spec. Not that I don't have some midrange burble, but not the big hole described by others.
