  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

08'TE510 New Kickstand

SierraHusky

Husqvarna
B Class
Finally got rid of the awful stock kicstand on my 08 TE510. I picked up a current model version cast stand. Everything is better about this stand. It has a larger foot, better angle and it looks a whole lot better. No more "over-toggling" the bike bast upright to retract the stand. Quick and easy install. $ 80.00 bucks from our awesome friends at MotoXotica. Highly recommend the replacement ! First set of pics showing the stands side by side.P1000660.jpg P1000661.jpg P1000662.jpg P1000663.jpg

Dredging up an old post here after using the search function looking for a replacement kickstand for my 08te510. I see SierraHusky hasn't been on the forum here since January...Also surprised no one has asked any questions on this post seeing as how there are so many threads on kickstand issues. I saw my friends 09 310 the other night which comes with this cast version. So much nicer than my stock 08 sidestand.

Has anyone else tried this solution?

What's the latest on replacement options? Aftermarket? Is Kelly at Motosportz still making his unit?

My '09 TE510 had that cast stand on it when I bought it used. I thought it was the stock one that everyone complains about. Not sure what he's talking about here because I almost have to get off the bike to put the kickstand up or down, or at least lean wayyyy over to get it to clear the ground. But, it doesn't fall over while idling on pavement, so maybe the old version was worse?

I think your model year 09 came with the cast stand. And yes, I can't raise it or lower it if I'm on the bike, but that doesn't bother me at all.

Kickstands....
  • My buddy has the 08 version- and it just never works for him-He tried bending and welding to it- its angle is just poor- and from falling over so many times to the left- he probably bent the tab on his frame. I have always told him to upgrade to the 09-10 one- but he says he'll find a tree.
  • I have an 09- works great- no complaints. Ktm stands taught me to never sit on a bike with the kickstand down (SNAP!)- so it not folding with me on it is just a reminder.
  • My buddy with a 10 (same as the 09)- bent the tab on his frame- it worked pretty poorly as well- I bent it back to "normal" now it works again.

Shorten the stock one and weld a big washer or two together. Get a big (18") crescent wrench and bend the tab on the frame outwards just a little. Weld the washers on at the angle you need and wallah!

Sorry I haven't got back sooner, been busy. The previous owner supposedly had supermoto'd my TE and had added this extension tube and has one of those chrome push buttons attached to a spring to adjust the height. It used to have no base and made a great probe to go into the dirt. While the kickstand was off, i got my 18" crescent wrench and tweaked the mounting tab out just a little. I had drilled some extra holes into the extension piece, grinded the end not so perfectly, welded two 9/16" or 5/8" washers to the end and then grinded them to the angle that worked. Personally, I think it leans on the stand way better than the afterthought kickstands that husqvarna had installed on these bikes. Not as flashy as the 09' kickstand, but is cheaper and better.

Thanks 268. Yep my frame tab was tweaked a bit, so I ended up getting the crescent out and straightening her out a bit. For now...

Since I tweaked my mounting tab, the bike has stayed put during idle. I personally think were pretty much screwed with anything we try.

hah yep I agree 268 but I do think the upgraded cast aluminum from the 09's is much better looking....I may cave and get one...

I have way more confidence in my bike staying put with this angle. Post a pic once you get your aluminum one please. Now I'm curious to see what it will look like

Yes I will if I end up pulling the trigger. Funny story what started this whole thing...haven't fired the bike up since the last ride a few weeks ago..and the other day we made plans for the next ride upcoming. So I went out to the garage, fired her up and rode around the block a few times to run some gas through her. Great, no problems, usual maintenance and she'll be good to go. Parked her back in the garage. Few hours later I went to the garage to get some water. Noticed she was sitting almost straight up- and ready to fall over on the car! Rear tire had gone flat somehow. Damn if I didn't go out for that water by morning I'm sure the car would have been scraped up!

Just a heads up, I bought the shorter SM kickstand for when I do wheel swaps during the summer and it didn't come with the springs, pivot bolt, or the nipple that the springs mount to. Just a bare stand.
