125-200cc 06 WR125 Garage Rebuild

I was talking to Walt (Wallybean) and some others. They suggested for me to do a winter thread on restoring/updating this 06 Wr125 bike that we just purchased for a target date, Spring 2011 completion. I would like to see how many on CH would like for me to do it? It will be a very time consuming project trying to post the progress and explain what I am doing? I would like to see of how much interest there is, first?

I have jumped the gun already and have most of the frame stripped to get ready for painting and I have already split the cases, assessing the damage and getting the cases ready for painting.

However, I can take you from painting the frame, assembling the engine, polishing various parts, to new plastics/graphics and making this bike as good as new/updated with the times.

Id like to see how you go with tuning the TMX versus the TMXX
Have you decided on displacement yet ?
I am interested to know how you split the cases bottom end rebuild etc

Me too. This is something I've done in the past to other bikes (just completed my '06 WR125, but not to the frame re-paint stage for this one). I'd be very interested in seeing other's methods, tricks, tips, etc...

I'm interested and will be following your posts. Sorry that I'm not there to get in the way...er uh help. I'm thinking of going through mine some time during the winter, but I have no reason to go in to the engine or gearbox that I know of.

Well, looks like I'll do the thread.

Keep in mind that this is a budget build. I am not replacing everything with new. But this bike will look like it rolled off the showroom floor when I am done and will look good/be dependable for years to come.

I will also list what I spend as I go.

Example: The swing arm bearings are shot. I will replace them and show how to do it. But the linkage bearings are in great shape. I will just clean them, repack with grease and leave in for another year.

I started snapping pics yesterday, getting the frame stripped for painting and taking out the steering head bearings.

What I would like to see is others participating, on better tips/tricks to do something, as we go along.

I will start a new thread in the 2 stroke section.

dont be discouraged.

i did the TT "orphan" project that had little in the way of responses but it had a lot of interest and a good following. many people view these projects and learn stuff...even if they don't reply.

and PM me for my address to send it to when it's done.
