Hey all heres a couple of pics of an XC125 I have acquired.
I ended up getting it with a better front wheel than the one shown.
I think its missing a few bits but hopefully not too much.
Thought I would start a thread as I will need some info as I go and a bit of a record of it.
Is matching numbers and has an Australian Compliance Plate so I can get it classic registered so can run Vinduro events here in Australia.

First thing I want to do is get the motor running, then work from there.
Is the thing I know the least about so thought I would do that first before going any further.

I think its a 125 measured the bore at around 56mm, not sure what the bore of a 175 would be.
The pipe does look like a 175 style though.

Just a bit confused with the ignition on the bike.
Looking at the parts book to me looks like have 2 different types.
The frame has the correct tab to mount the plug ignition box and the stator all seems to mount ok.
Just none of the connectors seem to be right.

Yeah am chasing up the correct stator for it.
Need the SEM / Amal really as the frame has the correct tab to mount the plug lead ignition box.

the motoplat is probably more reliable and there are several sources to get them rewound if needed.

The SEM is a reliability issue but if you keep it spotlessly clean and run the light on there is a slim chance it will go the distance....always keep plan b close by...;)

but my guess is (I looked at this bike as it was selected for me except I bought something else!) this SEM will be cactus and the original owner was probably in the process of fitting a motosplat when he gave up.

get it tested, there are specs on the SEM and the splats on here... I would favour the splatter over the Sometimes Electricity Making....

Is the problem with SEM the stator or the CDI unit? If it's the CDI it can be replaced with a pitbide CDI and coil for hotter spark and keep the 140 watts of lighting capability cheaply.

the ones ive had bad experience with have the triangular cdi box..they never fail to make the bike run in reverse, lol...magnets come apart in the flywheels on most of the sem, especially the 4 stroke..
i also like how the timing is done on a motoplat

I have got hold a complete sem igniton system to try now.
Have struck another problem though it doesnt seem to want to shift gears.
I got it to shift up I think but doesnt want to shift down at all.
Have been spinning the sprocket while trying to make it do it.
Have checked the shift linkages inside the left cover and they seem fine.
    Any ideas??
Dont want to go further with the ignition if it has to have cases split for more investigation.

It could be the motor has been split before and the gearbox was not in fourth gear when it was put back . A mate had that problem it changed up but not down.

Got the motor back from the engine builder, someone had had it apart and put it back together incorrectly.
They had 2 gears in backwards as well as not setting it up in 4th.
Hopefully be all good now has had all new parts as required and rebored etc. Also a partial paint job on it.
