They were never banned. The AMA just created rules that made them not competitive. It would be great to see one on tv if he can make it to qualifying.

The AMA has never disallowed 2 strokes. It's really just a major displacement advantage (450 4 stroke vs. 250 2 stroke - 250 4 stroke vs. 125 2 stroke) that no one wants to gamble to race a 2 stroke.

Cedric Soubeyras was very successful on the MX1 GP circuit riding a KTM 2 stroke and the motor of his Yamaha that he will race supercross on is being prepared by David Vuillemin's father.

I can't wait to see a smoker back in the mix.

No, it would have to be the 450 class. The 250 2t against 250f 4t rule was only for AMA amateur racing.

The 250 2t against 250f 4t rule is all good in Australia..... still can't get a 250 2t to get anywhere near the top 10 though.....
Maybe that's 'cause all the good riders are on factory 4t's???

Good point. I think it's a factory thing pushing all the 4T down our throats. Not that anyone would admit it but I wonder if they had a choice if they would rather be back on a 2T bike?:excuseme:

One good reason yes...and also the development of 2T stopped a long time ago in favor of 4T which has been ongoing

KTM has been updating the 250SX though...

Cigarettes don't cause cancer, Madoff acted alone, 250 2T can't win against any honda 4t machine :( ... Is the earth also flat?

A 250 2t is not competitive against 450 4ts on most tracks, especially tight SX tracks, the same way the 125 2t aren't competitive against the 250 4t's.

It's all physics & power delivery. No conspiracy theories. It doesn't matter how good of a rider you are on a 2t, the 4t guy will out accelerate you from every corner- simple as that - especially at the pro levels. Lose a 1/4 or 1/2 second out of every corner in a 20 lap main & you'll probably be getting lapped by the end.
It's even worse for the 125cc 2t's vs 250cc 4t's. With riders of equal ability, the 125 will get killed out of every corner, every time.

If they changed the rules such that the MX1 class was 350cc 4t's vs 250cc 2t's & the lites class was 250cc 4t's vs. 175cc 2t's, then you'd have parity & some competition.

hopefully to extract max advantage, DV12 team manages to get the Cedric YZ250 down to the 2T minimum 212lb (4T min is 220 and wow that is light!!) in SX class. It will be interesting to see how this pans out on Sat nite. Cedric (DV12 Team) is certain to gain fans for his efforts and he is all the talk on the MX forums.

    Please elaborate.

As stated earlier the 450 4t and 250 2t have always been alowed in the same class.

It's funny, back when there was only two strokes in mx I don't remember anyone crying about the conspiracy and unfair rules against the "uncompetitive" 4 stroke of that time. Yet the displacement rules are virtually the same as they were years ago.

For most situations that require max hp and traction I would definately bet on the 4 stroke, for many SX tracks I believe a 2 stroke is still competitive. The unfortunate reality is none of the recent 2 stroke efforts in pro racing have had riders that could consistantly qualify (on any bike), hopefully the DV12 team can change that.

I actually haven't yet seen an official story stating that he will in fact be riding a 2 stroke. I have seen that he will only be doing 6 races, and not starting at A1. Maybe Phoenix? Could someone please post a link to the story saying he will be riding a 2 stroke.

To say the 2 stroke is not competitive in SX is just nonsense. I remember 2005 very well when Kdub was the top 450 pilot in the series.... finishing behind RC, JS and Reed every race. Just like he did 2006 thru today (minus RC, of course).

Youtube the Orlando SX 2005 and look at the lead Bubba pulls in the first 20 seconds of the race on his SR250. And then watch RC on his RM250 crash and run down and pass Windham like he's a lapper. Moral of the story is the best riders win even on 'inferior' equipment. Put Bubba on a YZ250 tomorrow night and he still podiums, if not wins.

Sure makes for good bench racing though!
