Just changed my sprocket to a 48 tooth still can't get over 50 mph without working the engine hard. Any suggestions?

What exhaust are you running? If it's the big heavy catalytic muffler, it may be choked off.

I can get 60mph with a 14 tooth front sprocket & 50 rear, working hard by 50mph as you say (Standard is 15/51 & should be fairly comfortable at 60)

Stock exhaust race map 2 and o2 sensor pluged. Runing 15 48 gearing now still Dosnt want to go over 60mph. Spedo is correct also. May be it has something to do with the 2014 model ecu?

Must be because bone stock I've had my 11 wrapped around to at least 78. Not even sure what it does with a better pipe and tuner. These days I'm going fast in just the dirt, and No way am I looking for the speed then. Still running stock gears.

I have the exact same bike, and I can easily hit 70+mph and the bike doesn't seem to care much. Other than the horrible wobbles from the knobbies, its fine.

Stock except for Race Map 2 jumper. Stock gearing too.

Just asking, yours is a TE isn't it, with six gears, not a TC with lights on it (only 5 gears)??

The gearing on the bikes is very short (close ratio, but still should pull way more than that)
I've never tun my Lafranconi pipe, only the Akrapovic muffler, but I would have thought you'd rev out in top still.

    On 6th gear, full throttle???
I run (14/53 ratio) 120+km/h sometimes. Revs is high, but no problem. This is dirt bike, not chopper. Kymco 449 engine loves high revs. 15/51 or 15/48 ratio for street use will be OK! 140+km/h is real with DS tyres (Conti TKC80 for example).

If it is revving high in top gear, could the torque limiter be slipping?
    Just a thought......

He wrote - new bike, low mileage yet.
... but maybe clutch slips? What oil does he use, JASO MA approved?

So bike won't rev any harder than 53MPH, in 6th gear at full throttle, and front sprocket is a standard 15 tooth.

Not normal, definitely get it looked at.

Here is gearing commander's web link. You can view speeds in gear & your custom ratios from their site.

    They show 140km/h & 148km/h for standard & custom gearing respectively in 6th gear at only 8,900rpm. (100km/h = 62MPH)
From memory, the fuel cut is 11,500rpm.

I've had my stock geared TE449 over 90 mph, only did it once and that was enough for me on knobbies! I do have a power commander and open/FMF exhaust though. Mine doesn't feel like the engine is really working until 60-65 mph. Anything over that and it is buzzing pretty good but can still manage 65-70 mph for short trips on back roads. Your stock exhaust could be severely holding back your engine. There's definitely something going on if you can't get over 60 mph.

I know I have a 511 but cant imagine there would be that much difference between it and a 449 at high speeds. I run stock gearing, and take it to 150kph all the time easily. I weigh 100kgs as well. My mate (70kgs) can get another 10kph out of it but after that it gets a bit wobbly.
I reckon there is something wrong with your bike mate.

I have a TXC 449 and a TE449; speeds are from GPS and I never rode either bike stock as they both came with the Akro can and jumper plug fitted:

2011 TXC 449 - Race Map 2, fitted with supplied Akro can and JD Jetting tuner, TC Airbox Lid, 51 tooth rear: 13 tooth CS: 130+ km/h, 14 tooth CS: 140+ km/h, 15 tooth: 145+km/h.

2011 TE 449 - Race Map 2, fitted with supplied Akro can and PC5 & Autotune, TC Airbox Lid, 51 tooth rear: 14 tooth CS: 140+ km/h, 15 tooth: 150+km/h.
