Good friend Scott loaned me his stud gun today Guna do up some tires. Used this gun before to do these and they work awesome.
Actually if you had to ride snow or ice it would rule. You might notice I did just some of the knobs before so it would still work in rocks and stuff. This set I am going to load up full baby as i have spare wheels to swap them out wen I need to. K
Ah, that makes sense. Around here it doesn't stay snow or ice covered for long. I guess we're too close to the ocean so the weather is constantly changing. Someday I'll have some spare wheels;-)
I’ve been thinking of doing something similar. I’ve never seen anyone running studs in Oregon but with the way last winter was, and this one is looking, I think it might be needed to ride. Are studs enough once the snow gets deep? How scary are the studs in rocks? Last year it seems about half the trails were clear and half had snow so I guess the tires need to work on both. I’ve seen the big carbide studs and long screws (which must work best in deep snow) but I assume they would not be good if not riding snow exclusively. Since I don’t have a stud gun do you know if the Kold Kutters last on the trails that do not have snow?
i did the screws one year and most of them were ejected in the first 10 miles. "I’ve never seen anyone running studs in Oregon" Lots of guys at the hangover were
I am running the same system up here with a much more aggressive Rally stud. Here is a Vid of Thursday morning with snow up to the front axle. http://vholdr.com/node/9018 I am working on a more aggressive tire for the front to handle the loose snow but am concerned that I will loose control in the hard pack and ice. Pictures of current set up and future sets are coming.
We did a nasty slick clay ride. Took 3 hours to go 10 miles kinda thing. The 125 with the studs RULED. I was re-climbing hills as people worked to get their bikes up. The light 125, explosive power and studs made it a mountain goat in the slick clay. Just awesome. I seek slick clay now. So fun. Not stuck, just waiting for the path to clear... "That was a fun, i think I'll go climb it again " eeeeee eee eeeeeeee ee eeeeeeeee Who would have thought a half warn maxxis IT on a WR450 with water in the carb would not be the hot ticket heck, even a trails tire on the WR250 was no match for the mighty 125 Sonny, our crazy friend from Denmark partied until 5:30am and still managed to join us for the ride from hell. He's fun to ride with as he is a riot. River crossings in the snow runoff can be cold... I almost made it on Adams WR250... We cut this tree out so sunny could make it up the hill the "EZ" way. He still managed to loop into the tree almost taking Jake out. 3 hours 10 miles. here is what Sonny looked like at the end of the day...
Wow, for muck like that I park the Husky and bring out the Montesa (it is lighter to push) Yep, you found the true weakness of the trials tire, if the tire is not fresh with crisp edges, you are screwed. Looked like fun, I love all day rides to no where.
Brrrrr, that looks like some kind of fun. We don't often get to see stuff like that down here, but I rode some of it up in Washington state. So no wonder it looks familiar.
we never get any snow here in the Desert of so Calif Plus can you beleive it wa 87 degrees today .i wanted to call in sick and go riding
