Routing of tail light wire on ML bikes ?

Working from the tail light, can anyone tell me how the wires are supposed to route? Go up through the fender then down the side of the fender under the seat?

Mine leave the light and go straight up the middle (top) of the rear fender and under the centre of the seat.

Thanks, that makes sense minimize the wire on the bottom of the fender. I'll fit a grommet as well.
