  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Noticed fractured swingarm just in time

Hurky

Husqvarna
AA Class
I was about to change out the swingarm bearing and noticed this:

The crack is ~50% of the circumference already and it goes completely through the material as I was washing the crud out of it and water drains out of the crack.

As the crack is right at the oem weld I suppose that it should be possible to make a 'V' groove and TIG weld it back. I'll contact 'my' welder so he gives my an opinion.

Good that I found it in time, could have been an ugly crash if the back tyre goes amok.

BTW. It's my WR300 2010 with +600hrs on it.

Cheers !

Wow good catch on your part. Just went out and looked at mine no crack but no where near the hours. Might be able to find a reasonable one in ebay

I have an appointment tomorrow with the welder, hope it's going well.

I think the aluminum used for these swing-arms is to rigid/brittle, I already broke the chain-guard a few years ago and the tab was re-welded, good since. I did also found another post in this same forum with a swing-arm problem on the very same bike model but on a different location:

http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/2009-wr300-cracked-swingarm-what-should-i-do.45094/

Tomorrow will be a busy garage day, install new bearings to welded swingarm, linkage and mount everything back, want to go for a ride on Saturday ! :D

Cheers.
