Just finished this 1977 CR390 restoration. PO looped it out and mangled the rear frame loop, so I cut it off, bent it up, and fit up a 1980 seat (thanks Darin for the cover!). The Ohlins were a tight fit, but I'm hoping to love them; I've never had a pair on a bike. She fired up with the first real kick and ran clean, but the clutch slips a little so back in I go.

Cool looking bike...Ohlins are great shocks when sprung correctly for your weigh. Clark at Noleen is the master on these and many others if you want great suspension , he is the man...

Thanks guys, I think it looks a little like a factory prototype of that era. I will put up a video. The clutch is slipping so I have to go back in, but the first race will be in two weeks and I'll put up a GoPro shot.

    Clutch slippage?

Is there a little free play in the clutch lever?
Does the cable move free in the housing? Lube the cable.
Is there some free play at the lever on the engine when the cable is off?
If there is no free play in the lever on the engine the center rod may need to be shortened. Remove the clutch cover and the set screw with the 10mm lock nut needs to be adjusted till there is free play at the lever. A 1/8" free play should do it.

Bill, there is play in all those areas, and the bike drives fine until the powerband starts to kick in, then it slips. I'm sure it's in the shaft and set screw.

Are you sure it's not all wheel spin? My last 390cr never had any traction the wheel would stay ripping until I shifted. I believe that have 43 rear wheel horse power. I could light up the rear wheel at will.
