I'm in the process of making new 1st clutch springs for 500 ae.
They can fit on 430 ae. The price will be under 10 € each with shipping.
I'd like to know if Café Husky riders are interested to get some.
    PM me if interested.
    I have measures like that:
    -diam wire:3.5mm
    -diam coil:18 mm
    -lenght between hooks: 51.5 mm

If you have 500 springs, could you check these measures, because
i have some with different lenghts. ( 50.5 mm, 52.5mm) but most
    are 51.5 mm.
    Thanks for the autos

Hi Michel, I would be interested and even more interested if they were okay for my 420. Sorry I did not do any measuring last weekend, but I am working 14 hour days at the moment, I will try again on Sunday this weekend

    Hi Michel

I measured my spare 16 12 793 01 springs. They vary in length between 51.1 and 51.9 mm. Three were 51.1, two were 51.3, two were 51.5, one at 51.7 and one at 51.9 mm. Majority were below 51.5 mm

    Wire dia = 3.5
    Coil OD = 17.65
4 active coils like your photo.

Using my spring sample I suggest the range 51.0 to 52.0 would be quite acceptable. Target length 51.5 mm +/- 0.5 mm. You have some springs that would be outside this range!

I have also several pig tail design springs used in the later model auto clutch hubs (so called Swiss cheese design!). These are more difficult to measure! I think the pig tail was an improved design over the twin hook spring because it has only one hook bend. Husky introduced it after 1984 but not sure exactly when.

    Good luck with the manufacture!

    Thanks PEZBerq
51.5 mm lenght seems to be the good measure.
I'll see the manufacturer next week, for 60-70 springs .
I have several orders from automans.
    Thanks

I would be interested in springs for the 1981 - 1982 420 AE also, but I think they are a slightly different size from the 430/500 springs. Do you know where I can find a set?
    Thanks

I have measured my 420 springs tonight, I have 2 spare sets unused, 49.9/ 50.0 long, wire dia 3.37/ 3.34, coil od 18.15/ 17.86, 4 active coils , they look exactly like your photo, there is not a lot of difference from the springs you have. I have measured some used ones from broken sets and they are up to 51.5 long

All of my spare springs measure between 50.8 to 51.15 mm.
I guess if they were longer, you would need to add metal to the back of the shoe to keep the spring taught?

Ps. I went and re-measured them after reading your measurements Pezberg, lots of variation I guess.

I've phoned to the manufacturer today.
He was in Holiday in August and have now plenty of work.
Some are made partly. He needs to make a special tool to make the little hook.
They will be aveliable end of September.

I just come back from the spring maker with the springs.
I've asked that the inner lenght be 51 mm and
also that some springs are 50 mm ( 420 for stormer 254 ?)
I've taken some measures which varies.
I think the best is to match lenghts.
    Measure all springs and put them in different boxes ( 50.8 , 50.9, 51, 51.1, 51.2, 51.3, etc...)
As you see the little hook is a bit different.
He also told me to cut the wire if necessary to adjust to the shoes hole.
The wire is named " corde à piano suédoise" ! ( swedish wire piano).
