A friend of mine sent me a pic of his left footpeg almost coming off after a ride the other day. So I immediately looked at mine and saw it could potentially have the same problem during a ride if I didn't fix something. The problem on both of our bikes is the kickstand rubbing against the clevis pin while in the down position. It appears to put enough pressure on the pin over time and eventually breaks the cotter pin causing the clevis pin to work it's way out. That's a scary thought!!

    The fix:
Grind 1/16 to 1/8 off the kickstand and kickstand return spring bracket where they both touch the end of the footpeg clevis pin. And use a thinner washer behind the cotter pin. In my case there is still a slight contact between these pieces, but not enough to cause pressure against the cotter pin causing it to break. Important Note: Keep a close eye on it to make sure this fix holds.

I also ground a little off the end of the clevis pin

These are the results of the ever so slight but important safety fix

    That's a lot of work.

    I turned my pin around.

My FX was set up turned around from the dealer. I questioned it because I thought it looked backwards. Now I don't notice it and it's definitely the correct way for install.

I thought about that. Then I thought it looked wrong too. I also thought the pin should probably be facing downward for safety reasons. I guess it may not matter if the pin can work it's way up and out. Oh well, I feel better about the pin facing down and I won't have to think about it anymore.
