I also have used one of these Suzuki Dials for years on my husky's, the aircooled and watercooled, they are excellent and can recommend.

Using the marks on the flywheel and case i set my timing at 14 degrees the piston stays at the top of the arc for about 2mm in relation to the marks on the flywheel and case, as stated gives a consistent reading each time, was previously set at 5 degrees the marks are permanent paint marker so makes for an easy reference point when confirming tdc.
Sealed the flywheel cover complete with vent line running to air box.
Also epoxied washes into the cover holes to stop the plastic deforming and cracking with spigot type washes used to hold in fairing.
