• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Frame wear from swingarm

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hey guys - has anyone ever seen this before? It looks like the swingarm has worn grooves in my 1976 250 WR frame. From looking at the parts manual it appears I have all the parts/bushings. Is something missing, was it overtightened, swingarm bushings worn out? Something else?Frame.JPG
Thanks,
Mark

Was the thin gage sst wear washer in place against the frame? This looks like the swingarm bearing /tube was wearing directly against the frame.

You can probably build this back up with weld and then re-grind flat....

I don't know about '76 but all of my early to mid 80's bikes, I have six of them, had a stainless steel thrust washer between the swing arm and frame. My first Husky ('80 CR390) got the same wear marks, bearings and swingarm housing, wore the washers completely out! That was my first lesson on preventative maintenance (They were expensive). I just replaced them and I haven't had problem since. Proper adjustment is the key, I think.

There were no washers at all (unless you are talking about what looks like washers on the engine clamp plate) and the damage wsa already done when I bought the bike. If these are the wahers that are supposed to be there, it could have been overtightened at one time. Are the thrust washers integral to the clamp plate?

Yep - I see them now in your photos. I was going by the parts manual that doesn't show any washer there that I can tell (which I believe you alluded to in your post). After reading your post I pulled out my shop manual and it's shown in fig 6-1 on page S E-6. Do you have the dimensions handy?

Thanks for the great advice, as usual!!!
