Hi, my front axle has a bolt holding it in and I have always assumed this means that I cannot fit crash bobbins.

I think I have made a mistake though because I have just had the thought that maybe the rod and bobbins do the job of holding the axle?

Could this be how it works?

I have just seen this eBay listing for 610 crash bobins you see

Google axle sliders, it will give you more results.
The later bikes have a hollow threaded insert (the "bolt") that allows the slider rods to pass through.
You may be able to find a bike-specific kit that includes the right insert, or you may be able to drill the center out of the insert to allow sliders to be fitted.
Keep in mind that the threaded rod can snap easily in a slide if it's not supported well by the bushings that are normally included in such a kit.
