• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

BRP Handlebar clamps/ handguard mounts

Called BRP and they actually machined some lower bar clamps to fit my bike, awsome cust.service I had a problem and they worked with me to fix it!

That's awesome! I LOVE those bar mounts and am tired of all my ktm buddies being the only ones with them.

I wonder if I can run a KTM bar mount?

They might have started producing the lowers that they custom made... I'd call them.

Otherwise, if I recall correctly, the bolt diameter of the lower bar mount that mounts to the tripple through the cones created a complication. He did get some aftermarket clamps that fit the upper BRP clamp but the lower did not match perfectly with the cones... There's probably a "correct combo" out there somewhere but trial and error and research on something so simple gets frustrating.

***edit to clarify: After the above- he called BRP and they made the lowers that solved the problem completely. I'd think that they could do the same or have begun offering them that way.

That's awesome for you, but it chaps me that when I called (~6 months ago) They basically, in nice terms, told me to go pound sand. I LOVE those bar mounts and am tired of all my ktm buddies being the only ones with them.

Possibly that is a bit harsh?

I've not met anyone in the motorcycle industry that has told the world they are selling products, who is not working unbelievably hard - especially so when it comes to BRP. It could be that a follow up phone call could help, or perhaps your situation is slightly different than the other person (Benriding).

If you get BRP lower clamps for a Kawasaki ( if I remember right, but BRP should know and I know Hall's does ) you can use the guard mount tops on stock Husky clamps. I've been running that set up on Husky's since before BRP was making the bar mount tops. I would pair the BRP Kaw clamps with BONZ guard mount tops. They were making them long before BRP.

Sorry. Wasn't bashing them regardless of how it sounded. They answered my question directly in a perfectly normal fashion.

AWESOME INFORMATION****************************************! Thanks! I'll look into that.

I have yet to purchase brush guards for my Husky because I haven't found a suitable mount to the handlebars. I use flexx bars so mounting is especially difficult to do without binding.

Seeing the pinch mounts that Kelly posted earlier in this thread reminded me that Ty is prototyping a mounting system similar to that one. His mount is much stronger and allows the brush guard to be contact-less to the end of the handlebar and still be able to take an impact. Unfortunately they will not mount to a stock 449/511 triple clamp due to having only one top bolt.

I called BRP the other day and explained that I was a Cafe Husky Member and asked for a new triple clamp setup. Awesome customer service there. Not only did he give me 10% off, but it was free shipping as well. This triple clamp is massive and very strong. It is still rubber mounted to protect from vibes. My particular tower has the Scott's stabilizer sub-mount incorporated, but I'm sure there are other mounts available. Total price was $225 for this kit very inexpensive.

Well after bending my handlebar mounts in that crash I was going to get a set from ZipTy (I see they sell handlebar mounts and they even have a mount built in for a stablizer) and I also have a set of bike bonz top handle bar mounts coming as well. Do you think the Zip Ty bar mounts will A: fit my txc310 and B: be compatible with the bonz top bar mount (for mounting my hand guards). I am really hoping they will be because I already have my top bar mounts ordered and was just going to add the bar mounts to my suspension order since I already sent them in.

Not sure about the Bonz, interesting that they look like BRP rip-offs, I can't guarantee they will fit.

I only got them because I had seen them on another guys bike from around here that also had a husky (txc250) and he used them and liked them. They may be knock off's but I don't see any reason why they won't hold up just as well as the BRP mounts. I got them today and they seem very sturdy looking and well built and tough. Everything is machined nicely and looks good, so we will see if they Zip Ty mounts work out or not. Danny is going to ask Ty tomorrow if he thinks that the handlebar mounts on the site will fit my stock upper triple clamp or not. Danny wasn't exactly sure if they would or not.

BONZ has been making these mounts for years... I have several sets going back to early 2000s... BRP just released theirs 2012/2013. I asked the owner of BONZ if they had some arrangement with BRP or were they getting ripped off... he politely declined to answer. So maybe there is something behind the scenes... But if anyone is ripping off ideas... well draw your own conclusions.

BTW - If your bike goes down hard... why would the aluminum hand guard (which bends) transfer more pressure to the bar clamps than the bars themselves. If anything, the handguards should act like a crush zone and reduce pressure on the bar mounts. IMHO
