    Back for more education lol.

So I have found a hole in the tank of this WR400 from a butchered pipe mount that goes around the frame under the tank. Had a bolt that was too long and has worn a hole. Now it 'may' be fixable with a little plastic welding but not sure if I want to go down that path?

I have seen that the part numbers for the two tanks are different and the WR430 is a 12l capacity while the WR400 is 10l. I have also bought some radiator shrouds off a 430 on Ebay before I learned that they too have different part numbers to the 400 ones.

Will the WR430 tank fit on a 400? The seat and both radiators have the same part # for both so assume they interchangeable. So if I get a 430 tank I can use the 430 shrouds and it should bolt up to the existing radiators?

Where does the 430 tank hold the extra capacity? Does it have a taller profile to fit the extra 2l?

    Thanks for your guidance.

    Adam

    it's wider in the front
so your question will it fit, yes
so you need a tank, which one? 10 or 12, look on the bottom of yours and you will find the part number
look in the fiche to see which it is

guess I should have digested what I read
the tanks are interchangeable as long as you have the right shrouds, I run both at different times on my 87 430

Thanks 2premo thats exactly what I needed to know.

I will get a 430 tank and use the 430 shrouds I bought.

    Thanks

the 400WR uses the smaller tank
if you look at the list it seems odd, but probably marketing to the correct user in that market
a motocross and enduro would need less fuel than a cross country model

I thought the 400WR became the 430WR in 1987. At least that is what I read in the Cycle World test of the 1987 430WR.

from what I saw they just phased out the 400

And my two '88 bikes both have different tanks/shrouds, not interchangeable without looking stupid.

The shrouds will actually fit, but not properly, bulging out on one.

I thought the wr was bigger than the cr and didn't matter if it's 250,400, maybe even the 500. Just two tank & shroud combinations. I could be wrong...I also had to use a hot air gun to create a "dent" on the underside to make room for top exhaust mount bolt.

    a dent???
if it doesn't fit, somethings wrong, like wrong bolt, too long
looking in the catalog it shows a mish mash of the tank selection

or it has an aftermarket exhaust adjusted to tuck in tight
