• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2015 Suzuki RMX450Z rumours

I bought my CCM with its 644 Australian Suzuki 644 single cylinder Freewind derivated lump in 2009 and it´s still my favorite bike. But I´ve just got rid of my Husky 630SM. T´was just too heavy and unwieldy. I know that it´d be difficult to come up with a new single pot engine that comforms to the latest environmental regulations. But the first manufacturer to solve the problem´ll have my money. IMG_0041.jpg

It's not un-doable, just takes a little money.
Proper EFI & emission items can be fitted & made to make power. Witness the Honda S2000 sports car, huge NA power AND emission legal.

Costly to do in a small (bike) market though....

I do not want a single. I want a V twin dirtbike like the aprilia bikes, but reliable. Instead of shooting for 70-80hp they could have shot for a solid 55-60hp with reliability in mind and produced one of the greatest bikes ever. Or maybe even a paralell twin 450cc with some amount of time/energy into making it a lightweight powerplant.

I liked the look, idea & especially the sound of the RXV, just in these days of reduced reciprocating mass & mass centralisation they are just complex for no real gain.
I haven't ridden one, but looking at them the weight looks to be carried high in the frame....

... and a bit more difficult with a bike, now that the EU has cottoned on to the p/u plug trick.

With the right R&D budget & time, it is possible to make the power & pass an emissions test, no plug required.
It would require charging more for the bikes though & that is the limiting factor.
The Honda S2000 I mentioned is classed a an LEV and makes 125hp/lt capacity!
That would be 62.5hp for a 500cc engine & LEV rated.....:)

Right probably and honda (as an example of a big player) and others probably have pretty good insights (from research with autos\bikes) along these lines (power & emissions) decades ago and will pick and choose where they wanna make the most butter today ...

Cottoned? How on earth would a guy from your neck of the woods ever cotton-up to that slang?

The weight is actually all in the crank/rods not the heads. It is no taller than a normal dirtbike and the lean of the motor makes for great weight distribution.

Also it makes WAY WAY more power than any single cyl bike. People have got 70hp to the wheels on those, with much more torque and a better power curve than a thumper.

Unfortunately it is also damn near unrideable in the dirt with all that explosive power in any gear.

I see what you're saying about the weighty parts being lower, there is still a lot of it swinging around in there.
Specs list it as 122kg dry, that's a fairly heavy bike to wrestle around by current standards.
it would be good to see where it would have lead if they developed it further.... a little like our own bikes there.

But ah yes the power, big figures indeed :)
I have heard they were an evil handling thing. That old saying 'Power is nothing without control' comes to mind.
My old sport of rally cars was proof positive there, less weight & good suspension systems were far more valuable than HP numbers on a dyno when out in the forest.

Common Brit parlance ... (just where I copme from)

Finally confirmed today, local Aus magazine ADB are running this on their FB page.

It WILL be on my 'to try' list for next year when I renew my bike :D

Has the bike had any updates since it came out? Haven't heard much about it.
Had favourable ride reports and shootouts against other like sized enduro bikes when it first hit Australia but i wonder how it does now days against those same bikes?

It is supposed to be a 'new' version. The old model had no changed at all since landing here in about 2010???

I loved my old RMX 250 2t, was a great bike and you are right you don't even see a Suzuki in the woods anymore....shame really.

What year RMX did you have? I see a few on CL local and was considering buying one for a winter project. Mid 90's is what I see here
