Do you have a picture of the mark on the case so I can at least know if I'm in the right ballpark on the stator plate's location? Again, no mark is on my engine case.

No clue why there isn’t a mark on my engine case, but there’s nothing. Again, there wasn’t a mark on the Ducati stator plate either. Got it started last night, so I know the timing is close. Will have to test it more when I have time to see if it’ll be ridable.

Will have to say the Kokusan CR 250 ignition is nice on the WR300. With the 10oz flywheel weight, it seems to be really close to the weight of the stock Ducati flywheel. It certainly rev's quicker. Got a week long riding trip next month. Lots of single track. Should be a good test of the CR250 set up.

Hope this is the last time I have to mess with the ignition on the WR.

It's been a while... several months actually, but the used CR250 ignition has failed as well. I'm kinda getting sick of failed ignitions on this WR300. Have been looking for a new replacement. Anyone used or have experience with Regulator Rectifier aftermarket ignitions? Price is certainly better than buying a new stock Husky system.

I either have to go with stock (WR or CR), RR, or HPI.

    Thanks,

I would have a look at some Kokusan ignition from the WR300 itself, I still have my WR with the OEM ignition with 600+ hours and no issues at all.

    Cheers.

My 2004 WR ignition has failed two times times, the first time a burned coil and the second time a completely destroyed ignition as the inner-side of the flywheel decided to come loose at WOT.
My 2009 CR (Kokusan) ignition works flawless, one kick start.

I personally would go with a HPI CR ignition and a separate Lithium battery for (led) lightning.

Some pictures of the WR crankcase, no marks on this one, just marks when the inner piece of the flywheel came loose:D

The CR engine, with flywheel mounted. Guess it won't help you as you can't see any timing marks but it will get you in the right direction. I've done the timing with a dial indicator FYI.

And also no timing marks on my spare engine case, btw

Appears the pickup failed on the used 2002 CR250 ignition.

Glad to know my WR wasn't the only one without timing marks on the case.

I've looked at NOS 2002 CR250 Kokusan parts, but the cost is steep. Aftermarket options I've found are Regulator Rectifier and HPI. The language barrier and some hit and miss fitment issues with HPI have made me look at RR a bit closer. Just not sure if anyone here has experience with RR.

HPI has a kit with lighting coils and without. I've had good luck with both on my bikes.

Bought a new pickup from Regulator Rectifier. Just need time to install in on the bike and try it out. If this doesn't work.... gonna get a complete aftermarket ignition, get it running, and buy a GasGas, Sherco, or Beta. These ignition failures have ruined my favorite dirtbike of all time....

Removed the old pickup after removing the insulating wrap and melting the solder in the connectors. Re-melted the solder in the connectors and slid the wires of the new regulator rectifier pickup into them.

The new pickup installed on the stator plate. Once the stator plate was bolted it, I noticed a clearance issue with the little clamp that used to hold wiring on the stock Ducati unit. The top rear corner of the new pickup was hitting this clamp’s nut.

For some reason the cafehusky software is rotating all my pictures 90 degrees... and it’s a pain in the butt to get them oriented correctly.

Top pic shows where the clamp nut was hitting the back of the new pickup. The clamp is in the second pic. Cut the bolt down and siliconed it into the engine case to fill that void. Installed the stator plate and no more issues.

Rode it around about five miles. Lots of high rpm. Still loading up and not really clean or crisp in places. Especially in the mid upper transition of the rev range. Bottom is fine, very top end is fine. But the RPM between are where it will run crumby.

Pulled the new plug I put in before the short ride. What do you guys/gals think? 40 pilot and 170 main in the 38mm PWK.

Next time you take it out, ride it and bring it right to the point the problem shows itself... then hold the throttle steady while applying the brakes.... a weak coil seems to always show itself at midrange ... by doing this if the ignition is still weak this will cause it to show earlier

On your Keihin .... I’ve found this site very helpful on setting up the carb
www.shiny-red.net in the menu under “guides” you’ll find some good info on setting them up
Hope this helps ..... my plug looks the same as yours .... but acting up on the bottom end .... I may go two sizes down ( leaner) on mine on the pilot .... 74908E22-CD69-4683-88C9-ED76C17D973D.png

So gonna drop the main jet to a 170. Have a 172 in there now. Also gonna drop the needle on clip position and she how it runs. I ordered an HPI ignition with a dual map switch. Should be here Monday or Tuesday. I'm taking it with me on my big Memorial Day riding trip. Leaving Wednesday morning. If there are more ignition problems, gonna replace the old CR250 setup for the HPI unit, and likely sell the WR300.
