April Dirtbike mag will have the new husky 501 test in it. Just a heads up. Tinken says this is a great bike.

The TC449 is 238lbs. and maybe that is what Kelly was remembering for weight. The dry weight of the TE511 is 255.7, but it has that 12lb can silencer on it, so if you were to use the same silencer as the 501's, the bikes would be pretty close to identical in overall weight, but different as far as centralized weight. I like the 501, yes. We do have one here at Zipty. It is very similar to the FC450, but the 450 is more like the TC449 MX and the 501 is more like the 511. I think DBM will have a good write up on it, I'm excited to read it.
Not fair to use the TE as that 501 is not street legal so also subtract that huge catted muffler, reclaim canister, turn signals, big rear fender, horn, reflectors, switch gear, half the wire loom, brake light switches, The TXC is apples to apples and it is listed as lighter. The TC is 238 the 501 is 250 as listed. Just surprised. Tinken has told me many times it is a fantastic bike and I believe him 100%.
Well, the US version of the 501 isn't street legal, yet. But they do have one in EU. It will be as soon as they add the SAS valve to the tbi. But okay, the 501 is a little heavier. It's weight is so centralized that I couldn't tell the difference, but I'm not a test rider either. When comparing it to my 511, it was much more stable riding, but it lacked the quick snappy 2t type power. It was more John Deer grunt. Definitely more power than a stock txc 511.
Is that bike completely different than the KTM 500 or based on the same bike? I have ridden a few of those.
Define "completely" haha. The 501 shares it's engine with no other husqvarna or ktm. Caselli had to upgrade his race bike with 501 parts. I'm not sure about the head angle differences. The plastic subframe is far superior in my opinion than the cheesy aluminum one. The ktm 500 has 50hp, the 501 is 60hp at the crank not bhp. Husky's have all the bling parts as you know, billet triple clamps, etc.
? I thought they were the same engines across the range between ktm & husky just different frame/linkage etc??
Bore and stroke is different, but still 510cc. All ktm 500's are 510cc.501 has updated crank, rod and piston combo. 450's are 5 speed mx trannies. The 501 engine was a custom engine previously used by a MX racer a few years ago, can't remember his name. 450 and 501 have the same horsepower, 501 has higher torque. Ty likes the 450 and I think most riders will too.
Great info thanks. The KTM 500's i rode felt like the KTM 350 with a old school 4 stroke grunty motor and I think I prefered them over the 350 for where we ride. Did not seem heavy. Good bikes.
I rode a newer KTM 450SX a while back and wow you cant be lazy on that bike or it will spit you off. Big quick power.
