I'm having a nightmare time with my 2012 te310. Basically can't start it. Has no spark.

    Bit of background...

Stalled on last ride and died. after a while I found sheared woodfuff key.
I replaced key but now I can't get a spark.
I have done basic tests (fuses, switch) and everything seems ok.
I pulled and tested the the coil and leads and seems ok.
Refitted coil and found good spark.
Re-assembled the bike but couldn't start it.
Pulled the plug again and no spark.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

well, if you refitted the coil and found spark... that's a big clue. it's probably something in coil/pulse coil/wiring, and you accidentally fixed it.
it might be a bad coil.

    some other quick checks:
bad pulse coil trigger (or bad wires or metallic pieces on the pickup or rotor)
    kill button
    key switch
    wiring harness
    bad grounds

did you have spark after you sheared the woodruff key, but before you fixed the key?

is this the same problem you had a couple of months ago? if not, what was the fix?

Hi, thanks for the reply. this is the same problem i posted about a couple of weeks ago when my local dealer said bad ecu/loom was the cause and the bike wasn't worth fixing. the fact he didn't find the sheared key (and i did) doesn't fill me with confidence about his diagnosis.

bike was running fine up until i the sheared key. replaced but now i cannot get a spark. i have tested the coil and wires and they seem ok. i will test the stator next.

    cheers

I've had two coils fail on me before.

They went south in the wet.

They were cheap to replace...like $25.

thanks for that. the coil tests ok but i wish i had a box of different spares that i could swap in and out to see what the fix might be. unfortunately a coil here is $110 and would take a week to get here so im not that keen on buying just to see if it is ok. at $25 it would be a no-brainer.

    cheers

BTW- recheck the flywheel key to make sure it hasn't sheared again.

Almost any coil (within reason) will do for a quick test. another coil test you can do is put 12v to the coil... then remove it. you should get one fat spark.

check your coil ground. and other wires in the vicinity.

    good luck.
