I found upper and lower triple clamps for a 2011 TXC250 on eBay that I want to use on my 2011 TE310.

The OEM part# for the steering stem is different, but not sure why. I believe the clamp diameters are the same, but maybe the steering stops are different?

    2011 TXC250
    # 8000H1286 steering head
    # 8000H1354 steering stem*****

    2011 TE310
    # 8000H1286 steering head
    # 8000H1396 steering stem*****

    Anyone know if they’re interchangeable?

I'd guess the difference would be in the steering lock, which the TC and TXC don't have maybe?

    You should be okay.

That's the first idea I've heard that would necessitate a different part number. Excellent, thanks!

hell, if you want a fork lock, you could probably put one in yourself. "lock" the fork, turn the handlebars back and forth a couple of times. Drill 1 or 2 or 3 holes in a vertical line where the score from the lock is (they don't hafta be deep, I would think. look at your stock stem) and chisel them flat into a groove. you could choose the angle your forks lock at.

If you had access to a mill- even easier.

I'm not sure it'd be worth it though.

BAM, there it is!!! Man, you killed it, haha. I didn't even have time to pull it off my bike. Thanks Trenchcoat85!

I have work this week w/ the Melvins show Thursday night, but I'll post some pics when I pull it apart.

Yup, slot in the TE steering stem.

    They are the same otherwise.

Actually, my 2010 TE250 has a TC stem without a slot.
Darn fork lock does not work!

Btw, my supposition that you could mill the slot into the TC/TXC stem should be taken with a grain of salt now. It looks like the stem on those bikes is turned down, so there is less meat to play with. For weight savings I'd guess.

OTOH, I am not sure why stems need to be so robust (or even "there" except for tension against the bearings). Seems like the forks take all the load. I'll hafta think on it for a bit; I just might be missing something completely obvious. ....it's been known to happen.

Well, here are the two, with slightly more variance than anticipated, but likely compatible as long as the TE bearings can be pressed over the top of the TXC steering stem and then pressed once again onto the bottom.

I think my lower triple is bent, but damn it's hard to tell. We'll see if this straightens things out when I bolt everything back up. I've replaced everything else! Better not be the frame.:naughty:

(This pic shows the bearing on the TE steering stem on the right with the TXC on the left.)

The walls of the TXC stem are definitely thicker!

I'm going to head over to ILM in Orange today to see if Matt can press the bearing on for me. Must ride next week! More soon.

Is the stem from the TXC aluminum? Kinda looks like it.

If everything is straight, you may be able to press in a different stem.

    I think everything's steel.

My lower triple IS twisted a little. I'm going to use complete assembly from the TXC.

I ordered new seals and bearings since the bottom seal got a little banged up. Hopefully I can get everything home tomorrow and start reassembling.

I would say one ia steel and one is aluminum. Take a magnet and test it. Husky used aluminum of it race bikes for years while using steel on the enduro bikes.

That’s exactly right. The TXC stem is aluminum and the TE is steel.

Everything came together nicely. I’m getting ready for a ride but will post some pics later.

I haven't found too many relevant pics of the swap, but I'll make my way back to this thread if I find any later.

Fuel pump AND starter next. I just keep telling myself how much I love this bike. Beggars can’t be choosers. Especially picky beggars!

Sounds like CA Cycleworks is the way to go for the fuel pump so I need to hunt down the 2011 TE310 compatible part. Same goes for the starter, but I haven’t read up on it yet.

The starter is going to be harder.

You can get new fuel pumps from $15 to $500. CA Cycleworks has the correct internal fuel lines... cheap. Their pumps are a little spendy IMHO ($120ish) but a lot of people like 'em; and they have good customer service apparently (btw- they're in Georgia, IIRC. go figure).

did you find anything bent in your old triple clamp?
