Okay so as my title says, I have an 07 smr 510 and it runs great but always has a dry black spark plug but when it warms up and Gets hot after I give it full throttle it immediately just quits and needs a few minutes to cool down before I can start it again and usually I have to jump it with jumper cables even with a new battery. I've had the coil tested and they said it was fine but they never tested it with heat on it and I don't know how to test the coil or cdi or stator or voltage regulator. Any guidance would be fantastic, I have a new coil and cdi on the way but they're on back order and won't be here for a few weeks. Any input is very much appreciated.

Dry, black plug means too rich. A bike needs less and less gas as it gets hotter, yours sounds like the choke/fuel enrichment is stuck open, bike is jetted too rich, someone has tried to clean the jets with steel wire and enlarged the holes, making it too rich.

No, my new cdi comes in today actually, the regulator doesnt have anything to do with spark, you can unplug your regulator and still get spark. If the new ecu doesnt work, the last thing I am going to try is a new stator. Ill let you know how it goes tonight.

I hope it's not the stator, they are not cheap!

Start your testing with a brand new spark plug, and test the spark before you run the engine with the new plug.

Here too, I think. Just too busy to fix it. Easier to ride my spare bike which I recently replaced with a new one.

Right? I'm grateful that I have my Victory Vision to keep me on 2s, and have my 2 track bikes to give me my speed fix. But I really want this sorted. I was left stranded on the way home from work today. No bueno.

I had a similar problem with the motors 450 08 and ' 09. after half an hour started misfiring, had to keep the revs above 3K for it to work. I changed each of the components - stator, choke, pump, coil.. the reason was simple. all my recent spark plug cr8 copper (5 pieces) was defective. put the old spark 8iex and motors work perfectly
