Rubber bumper is still there. Pipe hasn't been cut or welded, still has factory coating on it. Kicker does have some slop to it

My 86 XC had a pipe just like his, stock pipe with some sort of chrome on it.
Maybe the original owner had it done.

If it won't start, just make sure it has the correct spark plug in it... Last one I bought had been 'left for dead' by the P.O. was sold to me 'for parts' and was running within an hour of putting the correct plug in.

Started on about the 7th kick. However after I had it warmed up it wouldn't re start. I had the carb apart and set it to manual specs however, i put some boysen reeds that require carb adjustment. On the spark side of it I hadn't changed anything.

Both of my 85 (one xc and one cr) 500s had to stock pipe extremely close to the water hoses and the bottom of the tank. the xc pipe actually hit the hoses for a while until a dynoport went on it. not too sure what type of rubber those hoses are but all that happened is one got a hard spot where the pipe was touching it. didnt do much else as im still using the same hose and never had problem one.

These mid to late eighties swedes are incredible bikes. If parts were more readily available I'd probably race mine here and there but after breaking a shock shaft on the xc last time I'm done beating on my vintage bikes. They are like the hot rods that only come out every few weekends for a good trail ride. It's hard not to shred the 500s especially haha these things absolutely haul a$$. Your bike is gonna be awesome when it's buttoned up!

if you are not interested in perfect vintage resto, put the 87-88 forks and brakes on it, hold seals better and the brakes are WAY better Brembo twin piston caliper
on the chain rollers stick with the OEM size and put a piece of metal over the aluminum bar, it will last forever, the originals wear out quickly, 20GA stainless is almost the same weight bent it over, trim and drill it to fit the rollers

I get murdered on the shipping costs so I'll have to stick with what i have for now. Finding parts locally in Canada ain't gonna happen.

Nice project. The big lc's are fun to ride. My pipe always rubs a coolant hose & I've never had a problem with it. I never saw a silver husky pipe with the perforated guard attached. Keep the pictures (eye candy) coming.

I have found that the front mounting bracket for the pipe needs a little tweak towards the right side of the bike, and that in turn pulls the pipe off of the water hoses.
I'm not sure what the stock configuration is supposed to be, but the z shaped bracket on both my 86 400's were inbetween the clamps, moving them so they were outside on the stator side of the frame clamp helped tighten them up so they don't slip back towards the left
