Thats interesting about the clutch Dave, i have a limp wristed clutch on my wr but it works fine so i have never bothered to stress about it.

its very light and strong and very unhusky like in that it doesnt drag.

I have been using ATF-F in the box and it works ok as wel

Don't worry I have been watching the bike on E-bay I might contact the seller if it does not sell.

I have just recently bought a 2001 TE 570 from a guy in Inglewood, Victoria by the name of Andrew Leech and am still sorting it out.

I was keen to have it, my first Husky Thumper it was a 1200 km round trip ( 745 miles ) to pick it up.

With the 400 I did go up one size on the counter shaft sprocket, a 15 tooth because I did a lot of long distance riding and a lot of street work and that probably put more strain on the clutch.

With oil the trick is to change it regularly, drop the oil after one days ride if it comes out really grey ( friction disc contamination ) your oil is not doing the job.

    Cheers,
    DaveM.

Cool stuff, good info on the clutch.

I have another 86 400 just for parts as I plan to ride the XC for 10 years or more. :)
Friends thought it was a relic, just cause they ride new bikes. I showed them this summer, been 20 years since i rode dirt bikes.
I was always got up the hills first and was leader of the pack lol. After 4 hours of trails they were done and I was ready for a bite to eat and go another 4.
In time they had all kinds of respect for my bike, as i could do 50 mph like nothing down rough trails sitting down.
All they could do is stand and work it hard to keep up. :)

In 1 season i burned 14 bottles of MC1+ so thats a ton of gas
Wore out 2 pairs of rear wheel bearings
1 pair front in the front.
Had to change pads 1/2 way into the season
wore off a front tire by the end
rear tire was done by 1/2 way in the season
started with all new stuff too
other than maintenance all i did is ride it.

    Best Motor ever! Awesome Bikes

    Nice !!!
Good inspiration for me , I just love the 400:love: , I think it is the best engine put in these bikes.

In case I get the one I'm looking at ( decided to offer 1800 euro so I buy those rads with silicone and make it even 2000 euro ) ,
I will have many questions and will seek your advise.

    Thanks

Super clean ! Almost air cooled beautiful... Last pic though, really well balanced looking bike, you just know it will ride as well as it looks. Yep, Husky envy.

Terafex !! ….Now that brings back memories…. Mounted one on the back of a Yam 175G (1980); About too much tire for a 175, but I didn’t weight hardly 120lbs at the time and needed all the traction I could get….

Great woods tire with indestructible performance…..

    Cheers

Had it out, lovin the tire.

Had this bid on a 85 CR 250 flat side carb on ebay and got it for 35 bones and it came with a good throttle even.

Well i went threw it and gave it a good test in the back alley, sure feels good so far.
easy starts, quicker throttle response for sure in a few gears.

    Update

    Riding the bike hard still.
    been threw
2 rear tires and the Teraflex is going so strong 80% left
8 pairs of rear wheel bearings
    6 front bearings
    2 sets of shoes
    3 sets of pads
    2nd front tire
RK oring finally stretched to max and broke rear sprocket tips.
    1 seat cover
    2 rear fenders
on 2nd set of rads, dented and so in
    but
Motor & clutch and other stuff still going
    But
    I got bored
I put a spare 87 250 WR in it and better chain and sprockets, 13/56

The bike is a friggin single track killer now, lol i so love it all over again.
