I have a 82 CR 430 with a damaged clutch basket and damaged inter ring gear and a broken tooth on idler gear. Can I use a 85 250cc complete clutch and drive gear, idler gear and kick start gear on my 82 CR 430?

You can use the 85 250 clutch and primary gears and kick gear set on your 82 430 but the overall gearing will be much lower compared to the 82 430 gearing. Just count the number of teeth on the crank gear and clutch gear on each and you will see the difference.

Oh, I forgot to mention I had a damaged 5 speed gear box, so I replaced it with a CR 500 4 speed. Any suggestions on gearing? Thanx, Chris

Are you sure the trans is a 5spd? The 82 430's had 6 spds. If you are going to ride it on trails or anything other than motocross or desert then I would stay away from the 4 spd. Just my opinion.

It was a 5 speed transmission. Thank you for all your information and knowledge. 82 CR 430 will only be used for vintage Motocross. I have a 2018 Husqvarna TE-150 for everything else.

Like above it should work. I would change the needle bearings for those kick start and intermediate gear. Some of those kick start or maybe the intermediate ones really were not hardened at the center. I also recommend pulling out the rod/shaft thing the clutch cable attaches to and inspect the part that pushes on the clutch rod.

Already replaced all bearings and seals when lower end was done and before left case cracked and screwed up clutch gears. This is the most expensive $1800 bike I ever bought.

When i first got my 82 430CR, a bunch of years ago (08), my cases cracked too, it's a common story. I pushed it the back of the garage discussed , then during the next Winter, I replaced the entire lower end, with a used one, but this time it had re enforcements done to the cases.

About 2 years after that, 3rd gear broke at the races, another common problem, so i tore it apart/splitting the cases. Mixed & matched 2 trannys i had,& in went new bearings/seals etc.

That cured everything, & been racing it ever since, upgraded the ignition, & new top end too, a few year backs.

It's probably the Best motocrosser Husky built, and i've had a ton. SO hang in there, when you finally get it right, it's so worth it.

Got all my parts finally. Next thing to do is reassemble engine and put it in frame and start riding. It amazes me how much my 82CR handles like my 2018 TE150. EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKES. Brings back memories of 77 thru 80 at Winter series in Florida

Whenever I ride my 430, I can't believe how nice it is.

Another best option is to use a 83 later case set much stronger left side case, stronger later clutch and idle gear should be used too.

I see many later engines cases on ebay. Clutches are hard to come by

I seen tons of blown 81 cases. It could be kickback at starting, idle bearings not changed, side case worn, etc.

I blown a set of cases at Unadilla from old motoplat kickback. That was a long way to crack a set

If you need to stick with drums, try the EBC shoes.
If you can run a disc, try swapping a disc front wheel from the single shock husky's.
I like to cheat, so here I'm running the Marzocchi 45 from the early 2000's Husky. This is a 2004 front. It's a bolt-on.

All ready replaced left engine case with a 85 250cc case, clutch assembly and associated gears. I'll find out what changes I
I need to make CR500 w/4 speed transmission. Hopefully it will work.

Did you have the 250 webbing removed from the crank area to fit your 430 crank?
