Written when fork oil wasnt readily available like suprize said minimum 15wt, i put 1540 diesel oil in one i have just put back together still sems to have very little dampening but i did increase the preload aswell.

The older forks like thicker oil. My '74 BMW specs 20 wt
15 wt in my 86 400- the forks work as they should.

Yep, 15wt for me. Be careful though. Not all oil weights from different manufacturers are the same. Find a brand and stick to it. I use Silkolene fork oil.
