  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

wright or wrong, rim lock under the rim strip?

B Class
I was mounting my new x-circuit's (still not done) and found that the rim lock is under the rim strip? I asked a few friends all said to remove the rim lock and place it on top of the rim strip. right or wrong? pro's and con's? the tires are OEM from Husqvarna. to me it looks almost impossible to mount the tire with the rim lock in the stock position.

from the factory the rim lock is under the rim strip. notice if you buy a new rim strip it only has a hole for the valve stem and not for the rim lock. either way will be fine though. i use duct tape wraps and thusly the tube runs over the rim lock with no buffer between the tube and it and i've never had a problem.

If you doing tires on a regular every race or two you are better getting rid of the strap.. it will be over the rim lock from factory.. this also makes if hard to fish the valve stem as if the band shifts (and does) you could be frustrated and my have to remove the tire to reset.

Wrapping the wheel over the spoke nipples is still the best and foolproof way.. I use the rim lock to cut open the holes for the lock and stem.. Once it goes in I push it tru 3 or 4 times and it removes all the tape from the holes and both fall thru when doing the tire mounting process.. Hope it helps

Rim strip over- if used
I like the rim strip to hold the rim lock but with only slight resistance.
you can tape the rim- and use the rim strip- and keep the rim strip hole aligned for the valve stem by taping over that section of the strip with tape to keep the holes flush.

Unrelated but I like using these Sunline Valve stem seals-goes over valve stem and under securing nut. It seals dirt but also allows for some give if the tire does shift a little so you are les likely to tear the valve stem off. One step above just keeping the securing nut loose... iMo
