  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Which supplier would you recommend, looking at returning back to std bore, have emailed la sleeve already, just want the sleeve and will have to get the machining done in oz.noticed small crack in between intake ports on the current cylinder lining which is on its last overbore.
I remember hearing the lc 400 cylinder fits in but need confirmation and input as to best option.
The current cylinder was ported by paul rooney in 84 so i want to keep this cylinder, air cooled 83.

Quick update la sleeve have stock but it fits the cr430 does anyone know if this will be compatible?.

If you end up having to get one made, consider going to the 82.5m/m bore size. This makes it a 400 (you wont notice the difference) and you can then go all the way up to 88m/m in oversizes - if you live that long!!!

Note the main reason the liners crack is because people put a screw in the middle of the reed block that is too long - and it hits the liner... Be wary of this.

I was going to try that if I could get a 430 cylinder that needed a sleeve. I have always wondered how cool a primary kick, six speed air cooled 400WR would be. I believe my 430 cylinder is on standard bore and piston seems to have proper clearance so not quite time to resleeve it yet.

I have had good luck with NW Sleeve in the Portland Oregon area. Only problem is they aren't around anymore. Well that's not true either cause they Guy who started the company is still around, and he is doing Sleeves again. Going to NWSleeves.com or Small Engine Repair should find him. With the Nickasil Cylinders of today has pretty much put the Sleeveing business out of business. However the few that are still around are very busy. If You want to retain the Porting that is in there now He can do that and also make recommendations on what He see's. He currently has my 84 250 WR and he is porting it to the Factory 83 CR porting bulletin that I sent with the Cylinder. When He saw that the Transfer Ports were to be made with very sharp corners He strongly recommended not to do that as it could cause cracking. Since the Cylinder I sent Him had Cracked all the way around the Transfer ports and the whole bottom of the Sleeve had fallen out I went a long with the recommendation. If You send Him a broken liner like I did He can still make a replacement. He Test Fits it in the Cylinder and dips it in an Acid. After 20 minutes or so the Ports are etched in the Liner and it can be removed and the Ports machined into the Liner.
