• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

AA Class
Hey all just purchased a wr430 1982, will have it in a few weeks.
Was just wondering if anyone had a copy of a brochure or a copy of magazine test of one.

Cheers Rob

congratulations!

I am new to Husky's myself, hence my enthusiasm, haha...

two sources here right off are the tech section that has lots of manuals and parts guides in pdf for you/us.
Then there are cd versions of those from sponsors and advertisers easily found.

And another possible source, and good reading anyway even if not your exact model is the Vintage MC Test Library
https://yeoldecycleshoppe.wordpress.com/

Various people have happily popped up and sent copies in whatever form to people who ask, like you did.

two other thread you may find useful are in the fist page of this section..

Good luck and stay tuned....and keep us posted how it's going.

Well it arrived today first time I have seen it in the flesh, came from the other side of the country.
Started ok nearly broke my foot. lol doesn't like choke I think.
I think I am going to take it back to stock and get it classic rego'd and use it as a bit of an Adventure Bike.
Mainly dirt stuff not too much pavement work.
So much shorter than my XC125 & CR250, WR swingarm must make a bit of difference.
Came with a loom and a new chain guide so just headlight, tail light rear guard and few other pieces I would like to do.
Prob end up tidying up the wheels as well new spokes repaint the hubs, I don't mind the original rims if they are still ok
Not sure if it will need indicators for rego, I don't thnk they come out with them.

WR lower shock mount location is different than the XC/CR and the shocks themselves are shorter also which reduces rear suspension travel from 12.2" to 10.6".

Depending on which ignition you have will dictate how much you can do with lighting. If it has Motoplat MINI 6. there is only about 35 watts to play with. That can handle basic vintage enduro lighting with some creative use of LED(very low draw) components. Depending on requirements such as having headlight and/or parking light on with engine off, you may need to add a small dry cell battery into the circuit.

If you plan to do an adventure build, that would require a much higher wattage ignition (100 watts or higher). Adventure implies full street legal electric and typical usage is designed at 60% pavement/40% off road.

Dual sport would seem more inline with the usage you indicated. Essentially a street legal off road that passes all requirements for all vehicles registered for road usage. Look at a KTM 300 and you will see what you need. Not in terms of electric start but it will give you a good idea for lighting and instrumentation. You will also want a compression release to make it easier to start and a stronger ignition will help there as well.

Jimspac, good advice.

The new electrics available thru all the usual sources here, some sponsors, have more output, yes?

And has anyone got the LED headlight replacement thing worked out yet?

We need a bulb replacement or an off the shelf unit that can bolt on.

I have seen some truck lights in car parts stores that say 'highway use' on them but would have to buy one to try it out.

They take a LOT less power...

Hoppy, you seem to have gotten a very nicely restored 430WR or XC. Very nice and protect that beautiful fuel tank. I myself would come to tears upon the first dent or scratch. If you focus on offroad you can get a Husqvarna plastic tank from Clarke here in the US. It would be money well spent to protect that tank.

Bodger,

Electrex and Power Dynamo are the top 2 I have seen here. I believe both may deliver 100 watts minimum. Myself, I am hoping to get a couple of SEM 135 watt ignitions working with pit bike CDIs. Also there are some LED tail light bulbs that are set for 6 or 12 volt and install into the old tailight bulb sockets. I had a conversation about those about 2 or 3 years ago. Search for the thread, he had some excellent sources.

Having a little problem with the wiring, seems to be too much voltage blowing tail light globes.
I think I have it right 1 yellow is power the other to the voltage regulator.
Should I run an earth from the voltage regulator to the other earths?
Can you test the regulator at all?

Well finally stopped it blowing globes. :)
Needed the both yellows connected to the + and a tail from that to the regulator.
Starting to look like a WR now, just need to sort out the headlight and speedo.... :)

It will look great but does not have room for a stock mounted speedometer. Go ahead, ask how I would know such a thing :)

Well its Club Regoed now and just starting to use it.
Needs the jetting sorted have purchased a new set of Jets and Needle as per the Racing handbook just waiting for them to come.
At high revs is all nice and clean just the low to middle range is too rich. hopefully a new set will sort it out or give a consistent base to work from.
Couple of vids of it up at Mt Robinson State Forest at Kinglake in Victoria Australia.
