  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc WR300 starts good when cold. But when hot needs several kicks.

Hi Guys ,
just bought this bike with 1200km and love it . It starts at first kick when cold . But when hot it is a real bitch.
It takes several kicks to get it going.
Sparkplug is nicely brown coloured.
I run Motul 800 40;1

what wre the suggestions and what can i do.
i hear a lot about different Carbys. Well bike pulls good and has lots of torque.
Vibration is next to nothing...

Thanks for the input.

when you say starts fine cold
do you mean with the starting aid? (that thing you pull up)
typically if you set the air mixture at a warm idle it will start easy when warm too

Back before I had a Lectron carburetor, the Mikuni needed just a tiny crack of the throttle to start when hot. I'd hold the front brake lever with one finger to keep the throttle just barely open while kicking. Worked like a charm.

Do you know if the PO rejetted the carb? I bought a JD kit for mine, but it's always started fine. I also have a couple of questions for the brain trust if you don't mind. First is that when my bike is warm, I start it with the throttle full. It kicks easier & starts easier. The dealer showed me the whole warm starting sequence of light kick to the top of the stroke, tip the bike to drain carb, crack the throttle three times & kick it hard, but my method never fails. Second, sometimes my bike can be a little tough to cold start so I cheat with a squirt of ether if I'm feeling lazy. Are either of these practices bad for my bike? This is my first 2T.

i highly recommend agains ether
cold start: hold kill button, fuel enricher (starting aid) on also improperly called a choke)
kick slow 3 times, release kill button kick with authority, starts every time for me
warm start: crack throttle barely, kick with authority

Do you have a headlamp ?

Many have reported prob's starting with head light on. And, what Kelly said. Basically, any prob's with the stock Mik, get a JD jet kit and you should be able to sort it out.
