  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc WR300 Kickstart lever

My 2009 WR300 is an awesome bike but the tiny kickstart lever is killing me. A friend showed me how to go just past TDC and kick like hell to give it a full cycle. Still, I long for a kickstart lever that actually spins it. Does anyone make a longer kickstart lever that fits the 2009 WR300???? It is such a problem I am thinking of getting rid of it. And yet, I love it when it gets going. Please help if you know something.

I had the same issue......A pwk carb is the only solution IMO. Almost got rid of mine because I couldn't get it started either. The carb is well worth the $. It starts better and run smoother with more power off the bottom.

is it possible for you to move the kicker ahead a spline or two?..mine is just about leaning forward when its folded in, made a huge difference in my 360. that + lectron+ swift kick makes the beast an easy starter, no compression mod needed.

My 2011 WR300 was delivered with the kickstarter installed at the wrong position. It wasn't touching the exhaust pipe in the resting position. I could never get the engine to spin adequately. Finally, I noticed that the kickstarter seemed to be at an odd and less than optimum angle, and moved it forward a spline. Now it touches the pipe, and that little extra bit of travel really spins the engine like it should.

You guys are funny I have a 2010 Husky 300 with a bone stock 2006 WR 250 carb and 2002 CR ignition the bike starts so easy and about the only way to stall it is to push the black button on the handle bars AKA Kill switch After racing it since mid 2010 winning a National #1 expert plate last year MR Walt rebuilt it and it is still on the original bore and it starts first kick almost every time. The other day I was out testing getting ready for round 8 of the Nationals when up on the side of a hill I stalled it. Yes I stalled it. I pulled in the clutch pulled the kick starter out balanced my self and gave it a kick. It started in gear and up the hill I went. Now maybe I will tell you what I believe is the secret
110 Race gas and CR ignition Because I see no other reason This bike flat works

yes it does. My dealer has recently announced hes no long a husky dealer. At first i was "ah crap"- then my riding buddy said id sell that husky if i where you for pennies on the dollar just to dump it and get an old ktm. Then i remembered this same dealer also a 95 cr250 motor in there with a documented 22k miles on it. Then remember all these years i have had to only just buy bearings for my 300.
Then laughed it off. People who don't have this bike don't get it

I dont understand the problem. My 2009 Wr 300 is stoock and Im sure some where along the line someone rejetted the carb. It starts great. Last night is a prime example of my starting procedure: the bike has not run for two weeks, lean the bike to the lefty till gas comes out the overflow, straighten the bike up, get on with tennis shoes and kick twice and it runs. The only time it doesnt start that easy is when the plug is in the pipe.
