  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc WR300 gearing?

Just picked up My buddies 2009 WR300 with a Rekluse...Raced the last and did pretty good for never riding this bike...were we race in Indiana we from tight single track to wide open WFO fields....not sure what it has for gearing now that I am writing this but I think stock front and 50 rear....I was thinking a 48 rear...It seems like with the rekluse it can pull a much higher gear without killing it...What is everybody running on these things...

For my '11 wr300, the stock final gearing is 13/48 and is fine for open woods and desert. However, all my manuals state that stock gearing is 14/50. Weird. I'm going to gear it down to 13/50 to get into 2nd and 3rd quicker for the tight woods that I predominantly ride in, and to have a much lower 1st for the supert tight and slow single track.

My 09 300 is 13/48 stock. I run that in the winter for desert, and 13/50 for singletrack in the summer. Tops out at about 65mph with 13/50 according to a gps. So not very fast if you have lots of open riding. You wouldn't want to keep it there, or I am pretty sure you would put another crater on the moon with your piston

13/50 is good in woods but the bike is screaming @ 50 mph.

If it is not too tight 14/51 works good for me.

Most of the stuff I do I am better off geared a little higher....I had this thing WFO and maybe 60....gonna check gearing tonight...

well I have 13/50...no wonder I was headed no where fast....trying to decide on 13/48(stock) or 14/50....

13/50 = 3.85
13/48 = 3.69
14/50 = 3.57

hmmmm

I am at 14/48 gps'd at 82mph. When I need a new chain and sprockets I am going 14/46 (can't seem to find a 47) for a easier cruz in the fast stuff.
