  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc WR300 2011 wont start

Yeah that's kinda what I was figuring, the only problem is I snapped it off at the beginning of this racing season during a race and not one problem with it then. Got it remounted on there and lasted me half the season until it came off this time so I'm just a little stumped as to what it would be. One would think that the problem would have happened the first time but nothing did. Just trying to get my baby back out in the desert!

And it starts first kick every time. On this thread it seems like everyone's having starting issues starting this not the case with my bike. It has always had kickback from the time that I got it tho.

I'm confused. Is the coil pack still hanging off the frame or did you get it rewelded?

The Ducati ignition grounds through its mounting bolts (I think), so if the mounting tab ground isn't good (like if it's broken off), I doubt it would work very well (if at all).

It's also possible that the coil pack banging around when it came off damaged something internally.

I never rewelded it when it broke off in January, just a makeshift fix that actually worked quite well till a rough ride in Barstow this last race. I've made sure that the bolt is attached so it would be ground out, but I'm kinda thinking what you are with maybe some internal damage. Do you know if these Ducati ignitions have three different maps like the old huskys used to? My dad lost one if the mappings on his old 500 and said that it caused the bike to run like trash on the top end, which is basically what my bike is doing, he was just asking me if I knew if these new ignitions have that same set up? Thanks so much for all the help! I've never had to deal with anything like this before so I'm kinda lost haha.

No different maps.

I'd be very concerned that your makeshift setup has insufficient ground quality. Paint, rust, etc can all cause a bad connection.

Swapping out with a known good coil would also be a good test, but I wouldn't bother until the mounting was sorted.

Alright I'll check out my mounting method and try to refine it. I know that in January when the mounting pack first snapped off the frame I rode 50 miles in a race and the bike ripped without any issues. But I'll take another look this afternoon after work and try and upload a couple photos of the makeshift mount

Maybe I'm wrong about grounding through the mount. Does the coil pack have a ground wire (in addition to the power wire)? The wiring diagram is unclear to me, but it looks like power (W), signal (R, Bk), and stop switch (G), I don't see a dedicated ground wire.

Thank you! I checked my wiring and everything looked good so I popped the reeds off after talking to a mechanic at halls and saw I had some frayed reeds. So I got those on the way and am gonna try that out! He said he'd had a few bikes with the same symptoms so hopefully I got her ready to rock for the hare scrambles this weekend, thanks for all the help tho! I'm lost when it comes to electrical stuff haha

G'day, My WR 300 will not start with the head light on.. Check the head light is off.
Spent 3/4 hour one day with just kick backs ouch! Light off 2 kicks latter, big grin lots of smoke.

you have an ignition fault.the kick back is the spark occurring at the wrong time which causes engine failure.i have much experience with this

Guess what it was........

CRACKED MAGNET IN THE STATOR!!!

What happens if you crack a magnet...It becomes 2 magnets and stuffed up the firing order.

The magnet (Magneto) I think its called is sold separately now. Apparently when BMW owned HUSKY they would only sell you the whole stator and magneto together.

There was no rust or anything. The seals had done their job well.

Forgot to update this thread sooner. Sorry...
