  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc WR250 reed valves

MOTORHEAD

Husqvarna
Pro Class
I need a new reed valve and bolt pattern looked a lot like a older pre-2002 Honda CR250 reed. Looking up some V-Force reeds I noticed that the WR does use the same reed block as the '86-'01 Honda CR250.

I was considering going with a Boyesen RAD-Valve for the '86-'98 Honda CR250. I like the design of the manifold and reed block all in one.

Anybody think of a reason that wouldn't work, or know someone who's done it?

I believe that will work. I think you might need to do a little mods (slight grinding here and there) but have seen similar done.

Here is the secret regarding WR250 VF reeds right from the guys at Tassinari.

DO NOT buy Husky reed petals as they are spec'd too thin. Buy some VF reed petals from an 02-05 Arctic Cat ZR800 snowmobile. They are the same shape, but slightly thicker. The best part is that they are way cheaper than buying them from Husky as Husky has some kind of proprietory rights on their reed petals.

Sure glad they're are no Husky dealers on here....you bad mouthing Husky
parts and all.

:lol::lol::lol:

Thanks for the tip ScottyR.

BTW- Regarding Cutting and grinding; I find I have to do that a lot anyway. I often wonder how guys can get by without a Lathe and Mill. I got a FW puller the other day and it wouldn't fit. Bottomed into the FW threads and almost screwed them up. Had to cut about 10mm of thread off on the Lathe so it would work.

Same deal goes for the 300 too? I believe they share the same reed cage, but not 100% sure.

Quite an old topic, but I'm looking to do a similar mod.
I'm lacking power in the sand dunes and deep mud and I would like to have a bit more snap.
The only thing is that I have a 2000 WR250 with the TMX carb.
I guess the '86 - 2000 Honda CR250 reed housing doesn't fit on my Husky then.
Would a Honda CR250 2001 and newer fit my Husky?
Anyone who has done that already?
Thanks.

I put a complete oem cr250 honda reed housing in my wr250 2004 with very small mods but you will need a *** (I don´t know this word in english, maybe mechanicist ?) to do this.

Good news Rodrigo!
You mean a mechanic.
What year is the Honda Reed housing?
Is it from a later Honda CR250?
Like from 2001 to later?
Thank you!

..98,99,2000 will fit, 2001 (I bought this) will fit too. You can to look a honda cr oem parts list and compare parts numbers, but later models (eletronic power valve) I think don´t fit. To compare look at www.atvunlimited.com, oem parts.

I have a 2000 as well. They have the true wide ratio box which can be a little unforgiving. 13 52 gearing helped mine a lot but lowering the float and installing a heavier pv spring woke up my midrange hugely. I tried pwk with jd and found no matter what jetting it had the tmx with heavy pv spring had way more over the whole range.

This gave mine grunt and mid power (lifts front in 3rd off idle) but snap seems to be a heavy flywheel issue.

I think float should be 22mm by memory which is nothing like level with the bowl, much more angle.

@Kiethy
Spot on!
The wide ratio is probably the big factor.
During bogging in deep mud with certain gears, I noticed I have more than enough power,
but gets very chocked up if I go one gear higher.
During deep sand whoops, sometimes it's over revving in the 2nd gear, but can't really take them nicely in the 3rd.
Would a swap to a 12 tooth sprocket have the same effect as your sprocket ratio?
Changing to a lighter flywheel would give a nice snap, but would also give me problems in deep mud pherhaps.

@Rodrigo
I go looking for a 2001 Honda CR250 Reed housing.
Are you sure about the pre-2001 housings?
Cause those are Honda CR's with PWK carbs I think.

Thanks so far for the info, it's very helpful and gives me some idea's.

Reed housing is where are reeed valves right (item number 5)? This part not changes if carburator is tmx or pwk.

Please tell me.

My WR250 reeds are broken.
But Husky doesn't sell reeds.
they sell assy only, and it's very expensive.

Can I use ZR800 VF reeds to my 2007 WR250?
